My Job

After school Chloe and me walked to my job at the bookstore downtown. Josh tagged along because in his words " I have nothing better to do than hang out with you two dorks". Carla the owner of the store was in the back when we got there. " Hey Carla, got any new shipments in?" I ask, Carla always lets me get first picks on the new books that come in. " Hmm, not much," Carla says, i raise my eyebrows. " Not anything you would want anyway, non-fiction, biography's, the works." I nod in agreement, " Oh this is Josh and well you already know Chloe." They exchanged 'hellos' and i went to sit down at the chair behind the counter and took out my homework from Algebra. " Jesus woman! First day and you already have homework?" Chloe exclaimed. " She's trying to prove to our Algebra teacher that she already knows how to do the stuff." Josh explained, walking behind the counter and looking over my shoulder. " How do you already know how to do this?!?" Chloe grabbed a stool from the front of the store and sat down across from me, " Because she's my nerdy best friend. Auti has literally, at least 5 books on her at a time!" Josh looked at me in disbelief, as Carla came around the corner smiling. " It's true, that's how i met her, she almost made me go out of business. Oh and Autumn," Carla said, i smiled sheepishly. " Yea?" I questioned, putting my homework away seeing there was no way i was going to finish it right then. " Just found a signed copy of MockingJay under all though's biography's." Carla throws it at me, i catch it and look at it, opening the cover to see Suzanne Collins signature on the inside. " Yes! Finally! I have the whole signed set!" I yelled cause Chloe, Josh, and Carla to laugh. " Oh shut up!" I said lightly pushing Josh, making him lose his balance. 

Just then a girl around 8 or 9 came in with what i guessed was her mom. " Mom? What are you doing here?" Josh said coming out from behind the counter. " Well, Angie wanted to get a book to read, what are you doing here, Josh?" Josh's mom asked him, raising her eyebrows, the same way Josh did in Algebra. I guess it's a family thing. " I'm hanging out with my friends." He said waving his hand in our general direction. " In a bookstore?" She asked, Josh nodded. " Well introduce me, you brat." She said making Chloe and me laugh. " Well this is Otter and this is short stuff." Josh said pointing to me and the Chloe. " Really?" Chloe and me said in union. I got up from my seat and went to greet his mom. " I'm Autumn, i just met Josh today at school. We have most of our classes together, and this is Chloe." I said pointing over to Chloe who was looking through MockingJay." I'm Josh's mom, you can call me Miranda" Miranda said, trying to shift the little girl out from under her legs. " Is there anything i can help you with?" I asked, seeing as Josh's sister and mom had not moved. "Well, Angie wants a good book to read but she won't take any suggestion from me, do you recommend any good ones?" She asked, Chloe looked up from the MockingJay book( Just to clarify she does not like reading). " I don't think your ready for this conversation." I glared at her and then turned back to Angie and Miranda. "Well I bet i can find you something, come on." I said to Angie, holding my hand out. She took it and I lead her to the children's section of the store. " Well first, have you read Harry Potter?" I ask her looking at what we had on the shelves. " Of course! They are great, i can't wait for the new fantastic beasts movie to come out." Angie said, clearly happy to be on an subject that she liked. " Same it's going to be great. Now since you read Harry Potter, that's what i suggest to about everyone, i would say for someone your age, try the Warrior's series." I took the first book off the shelf, which somehow we had in stock, and gave it to her. " What is it about?" She asked inspecting the back cover. " Well, hmm, let me think. It's been awhile since i read them, i was probably your age, it follows the life of these wild cats, that are split into 4 clans, i think? I don't know let me look it up." I take my phone out of my pocket and look it up. " Ok, here we go it says,   For generations, four Clans of wild cats have shared the Forest. When their warrior code is threatened by mysterious deaths, a house cat named Rusty may turn out to be the bravest warrior of all. That would be the summary of the first book 'Into the wild', which is this one." I told Angie pointing to the book in her hands, " Sound interesting?" I ask, studying her face. " Yea, i'll try it." Angie says then runs away to find her mom.

 I walk up to the front of the store to see that Carla is ringing up the book, Chloe still sitting in the same spot, and Josh is looking at the books on the far wall. After Angie and Miranda left i walked over to were Josh was. " Song books, huh?" I ask. No answer. " You like to sing?" I look at Josh, he finally answers me. " What? Oh yea, but not really in front of people," I could the heat rising up to his cheeks. " Oh yea sure, that's what Chloe said." I told him walking back over to Chloe. " Did you say my name?" She asked. "Oh it was nothing." Waving it off, i go behind the counter to grab my bag. " Are you coming over for dinner?" Chloe asked, also packing up her bag. " Of course, plus we need to practice." I told her. She brought out her phone to text mom that we were ready. " You need a ride Josh?" Chloe asked, not looking up from her phone. " Sure." He slug his bag over his shoulder and went to wait outside. Chloe followed after, but i trailed behind, putting in the money for my book and bidding goodnight to Carla. By the time i got outside Chloe's mom(A.K.A mom) was outside with the car, waiting, Chloe and Josh already in the car. " How was the first day?" Mom asked us, we all glanced at each other and then answered. "Boring." We all said in union, then laughing after, Mom going in. Josh directed Mom to his house, coincidentally it was right by mine(and Chloe's). "Bye Josh!" I yelled out the window. " By Otter!" He yelled back before going in and closing the door behind him. Mom was giving me a look in the rear view mirror. " What?!" I asked, putting my hands up in defence. She didn't say anything and just started driving again back to Chloe's house.
