Oliver's POV
"Where is Evangeline?" Caleb asked me.
"I don't know, Cal. She's never late!" I shrug. To be honest, I am kind of worried about her. Evangeline's almost never late to anything. If she was, she would at least tekst one of us to tell us what's going on. We have all checked our phones but nothing from her. We tried calling her and she didn't pick up.
"I'm worried, guys. This is nothing for Eva!" Eleanor checks her phone again.
"I know, Eleanor. But if Eva doesn't pick up, there's no way of knowing what's going on", I sigh.
"Well, what if we called Austin? If anything is going on, he should know about it. He always wants to know everything about his little sister!" She suggests.
"That's not a bad idea. Here, I have his number! I'll call him", Caleb says as he looks for Austin in his contacts. Luckily, Austin does pick up.
"Hello?" We hear him through the speaker.
"Hey, Austin. It's Caleb here. Look, we're all hanging out and Eva's like 20 minutes late so we're kind of worried. Do you know where she is?" Caleb gets right to it.
"Oh, Eva left for a while."
"Wait, what?"
"Yeah, she needed to take some time off so she's gone for a while", Austin says very calm.
"Well, when is she coming back then?"
"I don't know. She left for an undecided amount of time. Look, Caleb, I need to go, okay? This is also not on me so if you really need to know more, you need to ask Eva. Bye!" With that, he hangs up the phone.
The three of us just look at each other in confusion, each trying to make sense of that call.
"So Eva just left to go somewhere on her own for an undecided amount of time and Austin is not the least bit worried about her?" Eleanor summarizes. "Yeah, I'm not buying that one!"
"He has to at least know where she is! Also, the way he hung up on me! He knows more than he's saying!" Caleb crosses his arms.
"I'm not trusting him. Besides, Eva needs to be back for school at the very least, right?" I point out. She can't be gone forever, right? Something doesn't add up and this entire situation just doesn't feel right.
"I don't know about you two but I want to know where my best friend is!" Eleanor grabs her bag.
"Where are you going, El?" I ask her confused.
"To Austin and Eva's house. I demand answers!"
"Like he's going to tell you everything. He's not going to tell you anything you don't know!" I reason with her. She thinks about it and nods, sitting down again.
"What do you suggest, Oliver?" She asks me.
"I don't know. Maybe we can try and look through her social media or ask some other people if Eva did or said anything strange. I'm also trying to think if she ever mentioned something to me."
"And what if we can't find anything? What if Eva didn't want us to know?" Eleanor looks between Caleb and I.
"It just doesn't soon like Eva to me. She wouldn't leave us like that, right? She would leave something at the very least!" Caleb tries to reassure both of us but to me it sounds like he's trying to reassure himself.
"Maybe we need to let this rest for a day and see if we can find anything tomorrow?" Eleanor sighs.
"That sounds like a plan. Tomorrow, 10 AM at my place?" Caleb suggests.
Eleanor and I nod.
"Well, boys, it's been pleasant but I can't be bothered to do anything today. I'm going home." Eleanor picks up her bag and actually leaves.
"You can't blame the girl. She's really worried about Eva. And so am I actually! I know I didn't speak a lot with her in the past few months but Eva is still one of my best friends!" Caleb looks down at the table.
"I know. It's a miracle we managed to get you away from Mallory to come here", I joke.
"What are you trying to say, Oliver?" He glares at me.
"That you spend so much time with your girlfriend that you're forgetting the rest of us, Cal! Now, before looks can kill, I'm going to follow Eleanor's example and go home as well. I'll see you tomorrow."
I get up and leave. It was just a joke. Well, almost. Caleb really spends all of his time with Mallory. The problem is that we don't really like her so she never really fit into our group. Most of the time when one of us starts dating, we get along with the person and they become a part of our group. With Mallory, that never worked. She doesn't get along with any of us so instead she takes Caleb away from us. Caleb is blind to this and that's so annoying. I honestly don't know how he can stand her.
Mallory and Evangeline especially don't get along. I don't really know why or how but I feel like something happened that made them hate each other so much. I once asked Eva about it but she just shrugged and said it wasn't a big deal and that Mallory is simply annoying. Sounds plausible but Mallory seems to dislike Eva in particular out of all of us.
That also brings me to think that maybe Mallory has something to do with all of this. Even so, there's still a lot that doesn't add up. I really need to go home and get some rest because this is causing me a headache.
Where is Evangeline though?
A/N: So this is the first chapter of Evangeline which I hope you enjoyed. The story still needs to take off so I hope you'll stick around for that. All feedback is welcome though!
