His breath was heavy and staggered. His hands clawing down his face over and over again making it bloody and red. Rocking back and forth... back and forth... always regretting ever coming to the maze. Wishing he had just said no.
The foot steps were getting closer... the horrid screams getting louder. The claw marks in his face were getting bloodier.
The only way to silence the voices was to drown them out with pain. The only way to be free... was to die. But he could never have this release. He could never know the beauty of letting go. This... was his regret.
The foot steps were being joined by more and more. He now knew he would not be able to make this fight, he knew he would die. The thought of this made him laugh. He knew if he was normal, that he would be scared out of his mind... but no, he wasn't scared... he was horrified. The pain of this tragedy would not end with the sweetness of death, but rather the price and punishment of eternal life.
"I can't take it any more... I CAN'T TAKE!!! Why, why, WHY did they have to pick me? They are cruel... they don't just deserve to die... they deserve to suffer as I have. Because if they died, they would get the only thing I beg for... the only bit of freedom that I could ever have..."
He sat in a dark corner rocking back and forth, back and forth. Remembering the day where it all began. The day they tricked him into becoming immortal.
" I will never forgive... I will never forget, what they did to me. The pain of them stealing away my mortality. The safety of knowing that it will end... being able to let life be just a bad dream..."
They were close now. They would find him in the darkness, and make him feel more pain than they could have ever intended. Even for a monster.
He sat there weak and helpless. Head on his knees and crying. Rocking back and forth... back and forth. The beasts were now upon him. But the monsters are not what he feared. He feared what was to come.
The monsters were surrounding him. His cries could be herd from every corner of the maze. He begged to not have to go through the cycle anymore. His cries became more violent and he began to cough up blood. When he saw the blood his cries turned into a demented laughter.
With a crazed look in eyes, he swiftly grabbed his sword and charged at the monsters. The Moblin and Octorok came back at him with the same swiftness. He already knew didn't have a chance...
His limp body lye on the ground, still and lifeless. And I truly wish I could tell you that he was dead, that his suffering was over. But I'm not here to give you fake hopes. Fake dreams for this "hero". So if you wish not read anymore of this sad tail, I suggest that you move on to a happier book. I warned you...
His body started to breath again, then a few moments later... he screamed so loud it shook the very earth around him...
This tormented soul's name... Link.
To be continued....
