Chapter 1 - New Faces

It was my first day at U of M and I was already sick to my stomach. I didn't know anyfur there except for my best friend Warren. Hell, he even stuck with me through all the shit that happened while I was there.

Oh, where are my manners? I'm Cole Powers, an orange, 22, male fox fur. I'm 5'11" tall, weigh 186 Ibs. (Last time I checked), and have emerald green eyes. I'm nothing special, though I guess I do have a small scar down the back of my neck due to an... incident... that happened with my father.

But I digress.

Winter was coming to a close in 2023 when I stepped foot onto the University of WilberPaw in Massachusetts and started my first day in college.

Monday, January 9th, 2023

Cole Powers
7:00 A.M.

I awoke to the sound of my deafening alarm blaring into my ears. I groaned and turned over, pulling my phone in front of my face and pressing "dismiss" on my phone screen. The screeching alarm came to a sudden, but joyous, stop. I dropped my phone onto my chest, a muffled thud hitting my ears as it landed. I groaned once more, sighed, and blinked twice.

"Time for a whole new life." I said softly to myself. I pulled my not-so-awake body up to a sitting position and remained there for a few more moments. Then, pulling the covers off of my body, I swung my feet off the side of the bed and onto the carpet. Then, I pushed myself onto my feet, turned around, and proceeded to make the bed I had just slept in.

You see, I couldn't afford a dorm on campus since I didn't have a job, let alone money, to get one. And when I left my parents' house, I had just enough to get to Massachusetts. So, I was staying in a hotel until I got onto campus. Then, I would hope that Warren would take me in and let me stay with him for a while. At least until I found a job and was able to support myself.

After the bed was made, I proceeded to find my suitcase on the opposite side of the bed and pulled out a pair of black Addidas sneakers, black jeans, a white short-sleeved shirt, and a black and red flannel. I proceeded to put on the selected clothes, as well as a new pair of socks and underwear. I wasn't expecting to impress anyone really, but you know. Just in case. First impressions are the most important ones.

I walked into the bathroom and looked into the mirror. I thought I looked pretty good. But then I noticed one crucial part of the puzzle missing: My hair! It looked like I had just stepped out of a tornado or something. I had to fix it. Jeez, hearing myself say that makes me sound like a woman, huh?

I grabbed a spray bottle and hairbrush and started to fix my hair. I sprayed my hair with the spray bottle, then combed my hair. I used a back and to-the-right motion, making my hair look poofy on the top. It didn't take long for my hair to mold into the look I wanted it to, but I knew it wasn't going to stay that way. So, I fetched some hairspray and sprayed my hair with it, shielding my eyes with my free paw. After about two seconds of spraying in a circular motion, I was done. I smiled and then proceeded to brush my teeth. Yes, foxes brush their teeth.

After I was finished, I felt so much more clean. I took everything that was mine and put it back into my suitcase. I then grabbed my phone and checked the time. 7:21 A.M. I still had plenty of time to get to campus. I slid my phone into my pocket, zipped up my suitcase, and headed out of my hotel room, locking the door behind me and heading down to the front desk to check out.

When I arrived, there was no one at the front desk. Of course, I couldn't just leave my key on the desk. So, I looked around for a key drop-off slot or something alike. And sure enough, I found one. I slid the key into the slot and headed out the door. I noticed there wasn't any cabs outside, which confused me as there were usually were a few. So I pulled my phone out of my pocket and called up my best friend.
