A woman needs two things when going to war: a game plan and lipstick.
Jacinda Mercotti had both.
Facing the mirrored wall of the ladies room, she ran the spiced burgundy hue over the fullness of her lips and swiped a finger around the edges. Tonight demanded nothing but perfection. After five long years of scheming, she had one chance to bring Rafe Larson to his knees.
She wore gold tonight. A shade lighter then the deep caramel of her skin and the warm honey of her long, thick hair. She wanted to stand out, to be seen. In a sea of black and red, the two colours women tended to favour in the cold month of February—she would glow like a flame.
And there was only one man she wanted to burn.
Her clutch vibrated and hummed, drawing her back to present and Jacinda lifted her phone from inside. A message flashed on screen from her younger sister, Esmeralda.
Unlocking the device, she scrolled through to her messages and smiled as Esme's rapid-fired texts.
