Powers and Abilities

I'm just gonna come right out and say it;

No one likes overpowered characters unless they have a good reason to have that many powers.

Like with designing your character, if you want to make a gemsona that is already a canon gem type, give your character the same set of abilities as the canon gem type. If you're making a Pearl, then you should give her a pocket dimension for storage in her gem and the ability to make holograms. If you want to make a new gem, though, your only limit is your imagination. (And realistic standards.)

Some gems have as many powers as Rose Quartz (AKA, Pink Diamond in disguise), who had healing tears, floating, super strength, shield bubbles, and the power to create armies of living plants. Some are more limited but still powerful, like Ruby's fire, Sapphire's ice, Lapis Lazuli's water, and Peridot's magnetism. And still, some are subtle like Bismuth's morphing and her resistance to heat. All quartz gems seem to be able to do that flaming Sonic-roll thing, so some abilities are grouped with the type of gem you are. Further still, some gems don't have any special powers besides shapeshifting, bubbling, fusing, and summoning a personalized weapon.

On the topic of weapons, you don't have to have the same weapon as a canon gem if your OC's gem is in a different location, your color scheme is different, or if you just don't want to.  You can give your Pearl a set of ninja throwing stars if you want; it's all up to you.

Era 2 gems seem to have more limited powers than their Era 1 predecessors. Peridot can't shapeshift, and we haven't seen her summon a weapon, but she can bubble, we assume she can fuse, and she has her Magneto powers.
