"Not Enough"
Present Day
5pm EST
She pulls her cell phone out of her pocket, "The Boondock Saints" theme playing loudly as she answers it with a smile, "Well hello stranger, how's it going?"
The raspy voice on the other end greets her, "Hey beautiful, I'm doing good; how about you?"
She laughs, "I'm good Norm, just walking through baggage claim."
He asks, "You're in an airport again? Where to this time Mia?"
She juggles her tote bag onto her other shoulder as she pulls her carry-on behind her, trying to get a better grip on her phone as she answers, "I just got off the plane at JFK, I'm here a few days for work."
He answers, his excitement easy to detect in his voice, "You're in New York? You didn't tell me you were coming."
She looks around as she briskly walks towards the exit to the airport, "I didn't know until the last minute and you're still in New Mexico right?"
She hears the familiar sound of a zippo lighter closing and him exhaling as he answers, "I actually flew back early this morning. I've been sleeping; in fact I've only been up for an hour. Do you have plans for tonight?"
She smiles, "No I haven't. I still have to find a hotel, like I said it was last minute."
He asks, "Would you like to come over? I can order dinner and we can catch up. You can stay here if you want."
She grins as she steps through the double doors of the airport and out to the curb, "I'd love to see you Norm, it's been too long. What's for dinner?"
"Whatever you want babe, chinese or pizza?" he offers.
She puts out a hand to hail a cab as she answers, "I haven't been to New York in six months, I want pizza!"
Norman chuckles, "Done! Just text me when you're about twenty minutes away. I'll order it then so it's nice and hot when you get here."
The cab pulls up to where she's standing and she says, "Okay, I'll do that. I'll see you in less than an hour, bye." He tells her goodbye and hangs up the phone, finishing his smoke with a smile on his face.
Mia climbs into the taxi, gives the driver the address and settles back into the seat, going over her emails as the cab drives away from the airport and into the city. She looks up once they cross the bridge into the city and admires the view, the sun setting quickly. As the cab makes its way through Manhattan and towards Chinatown, the city comes alive under all the neon lights; Mia sighs and thinks this is when she misses New York the most.
She texts Norman when the taxi stops for the next red light, knowing that from this point it will only be about twenty minutes until she's at his apartment. She smiles to herself as she sends the text, thinking about how nice it will be to see her old friend. She's known Norman since her early twenties, their mutual friend Balthazar introducing them at a party many years ago. She was instantly mesmerized by his beautiful blue eyes and sweet soul; she couldn't wait to get to know him. He was everything she'd heard he was and they easily became close friends. Norman's girlfriend at the time wasn't very thrilled about her man spending time with the sometimes actress and model. Mia and Norman had many good times and great adventures over the years but had always been just friends, much to Balty's frustration. He was always trying to get the pretty auburn haired woman together with one of his closest friends but it seemed like they purposely avoided that by always having a significant other.
