"I now present to you, Princess Elizabelle Mariella Janorelle, daughter of the most wonderful King Louis VI, of Alandia,"
I put on a expressionless face, and walk out to the crowd. The people who stand fifty feet below me cheer and shout my name. The royal family, was attending a parade to honor a former king, and my father's subjects were elated. Sightings of the royal family were rare, as births in this kingdom.
My long white gown swept across the floor as I walked down the balcony and next to my older sisters, Genevieve, and Odette. The wore the same gowns as me and wore the same expressions on their faces. Stern, and proper, but caring. That was how we had been trained to look since we were young. Genevieve, the oldest at 19, was taller and prettier than Odette, who was in a way chubby ( though she would kill me if I said so. Odette was also older than me at 17, but I was far more fair, though I tried not to brag about it.
I came third in line, at 16, the smallest of the oldest girls. Right after I settled in my standing position, the announcer shouted, "Princess Marian Fiona Ruelle, the daughter of the most magnificent King Louis VI of Alandia,"
Marian walked out of the curtained off room were I had stood just moments before. She was 10, and still quite young. The public smiled as my sister walked out, a little clumsily, with an excited face. She wasn't very good at containing her emotions. I was already quite bored considering I had sat behind that curtain for thirty minutes, while The announcer wasn't finished yet though.
"And finally, we have Princess Cerelia Adorette Salandine, daughter of King Louis VI of Alandia,"
Cerelia walked out proudly with the biggest grin on her face. She was 6 years old and just learning how to be a princess. She was walking all wrong and her dress wasn't fitting the way it was supposed to. The crowd loved it though, and clapped as she waddled over next to Marian.
"Did I do good?" Cerelia asked me. I smiled and nodded. She grinned even bigger ( which had at first seemed impossible) then looked forward.
The ceremony dragged on and on for a whole hour, then finally we were dismissed. As the bells rang in the distance we got into our carriage and left the cathedral were we had been.
"That's it!" Cerelia asked
"Yes Lia, that's it" Odette said using the name she liked to be called.
Lia sighed a little then started chatting to Marian about the ceremony. I saw this as a chance to talk with the older girls.
" That was quite a long ceremony." I said to them.
" It was rather lengthy," Genevieve replied.
" That preacher kept blabbing on and on about the same thing," Odette said, " King Louis I was the most amazing person ever. King Louis is the only reason we are here. King Louis was a blessing from the lord himself. If you ask me, King Louis was a fat, guy who was smart enough to conquer a city."
" Odette!" Genevieve snapped " Manners!"
"At least Louis wasn't as fat as the preacher. That guy eats to much. He probably had some good speech written down, but dropped it, and didn't feel like picking it up!" I whispered to Odette. She giggle, a little, then laughed so hard tears were coming out of her eyes.
" What's so funny?" Lia asked.
" You wouldn't understand Lia," Odette said in between laughing fits. Genevieve rolled her eyes, Lia sat over in the corner and pouted and Marian just sighed. Marian was a happy girl, but was very quiet. I knew what would make her laugh.
"You know Mari," I said using her nickname," I saw a man today and he was wearing the funniest thing."
"What?" She asked
"He wore a piece of wood around his neck tied with rope, as a sign. And you'll never guess what it said. It said, " I am smart" on it. Then, below he wrote " Hire me as a tutor". Now that was all fine, except for the fact he spelled tutor, hire, and smart wrong."
Mari laughed and laughed and laughed until she too was crying.
The carriage stopped at Wenston Palace, the place where we lived. I smiled as Mother and Father appeared from their carriage and stepped onto the cobblestone.
"Genevieve, Odette, Elizabelle, Marian, and Cerelia, so glad to see you!" Father said motioning for us to come over. Each one of us said father and curtsied. Mother smiled a warm smile down at us. Already, her stomach was growing, along with a new baby. We were so joyous when we heard the news. The whole castle wanted a boy.
We all walked into the palace. It was gorgeous with gold and even diamond finishings. Portraits lined the walls with royal faces on them. We were at home.
The family split up, each of us heading our own separate ways. Father had to work on something, Mother was feeling tired, Genevieve and Odette were readin, Mari was at a tutoring session, and Lia was playing with dolls.
I walked down a corridor and opened the door to my room. Inside Hailey, my Lady in Waiting, was waiting for me. She smiled when I came in and sat me down on the bed. Carefully she began to undo my hair, and brush it out.
" So how did the ceremony go?" She asked.
" I was quite long. The man was like a hundred and was droning on and on and on and-" I began.
" We get it!" she smiled
" So yeah that's it," I said.
There was a knock on the door m, and Hailey went to see who it was. A young servant maybe Mari's age, walked in. After looking at her for a second I remembered her name was Lilac.
"Malady," she said " Your father has sent for you. He said that thou should go to his office,"
" What for?" I asked trying not to laugh at the way she talked. That way of talking was only used in the oldest parts of the world.
"The message was not meant for my ears, but it believe it has to do with thy sister becoming queen."
