Winter's sleep (lost and found)

The dream was always the same. Always, always, always. Ever since I came to this stupid school, and it just spiralled out of my control. But, that night it was bad, the nightmare was worse:

The golden sun poured through the leaves, water falling over jaded, jagged rocks. Rolling, rolling, rolling green hills; split by a winding, meandering, running lake. The grass grew long, so long that it was up to her hips. The paper white clouds flew in the sky, creating a shadow across the land if they fell in front of the sun. The trees that surrounded her lay uninterrupted, undisturbed by humanity. Only nature and plants and animals could be heard: the swaying of the trees; the clashing of the bright autumn leaves; birds fluttering and singing to each other. All something that we have very little time for, but not her.

A strong gust of wind invades the sound. It whistled and whistled. It made the leaves sound like the angry sea lay right beside her. Her hair made a tornado around her hair, flying like the birds in the trees, sheltering from the wave of wind. But she carried on any way. Walking. Walking. Walking towards her goal. Towards the bottom of the field.

Stronger became the gust of wind. Surrounding her. Filling all of her senses. Invading her hearing; invading her cold touch; invading her taste. It covered her like water. Weak twigs glided before her, guided by the storm.

She glanced behind her. Then she saw it. Surely the wind couldn't become a storm this quickly. Surely it couldn't it couldn't be that strong. Surely? Blocks of grass were levitating, higher and higher by the minute, leaving massive craters, disrupting the scenery that she had just walked along. It was unnatural.

It became blisteringly hot, as if the sun was getting closer. The wind became more violent. She started running. Running as fast as her legs could take her. Sour sweat trickled down her face, dripping off her nose. Her breath became more frequent, deeper, panting, trying to get all the air in her lungs at once. Not working. That wasn't working. All she could hear was noise that filled her. She became blind in panic, just aimlessly running. Running anywhere that could be safe from this. From this.

Everything is catching up with her; so fast; too fast. I'm trying to reach out, to try to help her, but I just can't. Then it happens. She trips on a plant, an over grown bramble bush. Thick, crimson ran from her ankle, down her foot, oozing from the veins. She stays there helpless; screaming, crying to the outer world, trying to get someone's attention before she falls asleep. Tears ran down her face, red paths followed. The difficulty was that she only could get the attention of me. The most unhelpful person.

The world is swirling around us. Shaking. Rumbling. Dissolving. Again she runs- well this time she tries to. A limp is prominent and she's not going as fast as she was. Within a click of your finger, she falls, and I'm falling with her. Tumbling, gliding, everything seems as if were in slow motion. Just before I hit the ground, just before I lose sight of her, I zoom back into reality.

That moment, the dream just stopped. It cleared out of my mind, just the shattered shards of it lingered in my memory. My hands were starting to sweat, and so was my forehead. How could I be? The heating's off, and it's winter. Obviously, I had been moving in my sleep, the blanket was tangled around my limbs and Raven had virtually none.

I felt myself shaking when Raven untangled the blanket from my legs and wrapped it sound both of us. Her arms enveloped me in a big, warm hug, swaying slightly from side to side. I tried to keep quiet as the tears rolled down my cheeks when I buried my face in her shoulder.

I never saw her face. Never ever. Only the back of her head, even when it was the front, her face is surrounded by a barrier of her long brunette hair; entangling her; capturing her senses. But, one thing I know, one this she always has is the long night dress that she wears. Every now and then, she stumbles over it, always at the same time in the dream, but who wouldn't when they are running in a dress that long.

And I'm always there as a silent spectator, helpless to whoever needs me the most.
