Don't forget that.
"I'm not a Luna," now my voice was nothing but a whisper. Heather looked directly at my mark.
"Are you sure about that?"
My hands were shaking. "I'm a rogue!"
"That just so happens to love my Alpha son."
I bit my lip, my eyes watering without my permission. So many undecided decisions swam inside of my head. The force of it was almost enough to bring me to my knees.
And I would have too, if the little girl didn't start to scream.
Heather and I were out the door within seconds. I zoomed past her, my desperation moving my feet at an unnatural speed. The scream came from the end of the forest. From Thayer's house, the wood line was about a mile away. With my advanced hearing, I could hear the commotion like it was directly beside me. Many sets of pounding feet followed after me. I heard a pained cry as we got closer.
Two little girls stood at the end of the forest. The younger one, probably around the age of four, laid limp on the ground. The older one, maybe seven or eight, hovered over top of her. She was the one screaming.
"Lucy!" She wailed. "Lucy, wake up!"
I picked up the speed. I silently started to pray to whoever was listening. Please, don't let this be what I think it is!
I made it to the scene before anyone else. My stomach rolled, and my eyes teared up, but I forced my emotion aside. Now was not the time to break down.
"Lucy?" A masculine voice whimpered from behind me. A man, who had strikingly similar features to the older girl, took a heavy step forward. It didn't take a genius to realize that he was the father. "No!"
He collapsed on the ground beside his daughters, lifting his bloody child into his arms. Lucy's delicate throat was slit, her bright blue eyes staring in horror at the sky. A small, bloody letter was laying on the ground beside her. I didn't hesitate to pick it up.
Step one: make yourself known.
My shaking hands crushed the paper. I let one, singe tear cascade down my cheek before blinding rage filled my body. Drake did this. Drake murdered this child. He was right under our noses, and we didn't even realize it. How could we be so stupid?
A heard a rustling from the left. Seconds later, an ashen Thayer stepped out of the forest. One look at my face, and he knew what had happened. He let out a mighty roar.
A small weight crashed into my legs. Looking down, I saw that it was the older girl. She hugged me with all of her strength.
"You'll stop him, right? You'll stop that man!"
My heart twinged. This little girl now has to grow up far faster than she should have. She just watched her little sister die. No child should have to see that.
I saw things that like. Look how I turned out.
I crouched down so I was eye level with the girl. Her blood shot eyes and sniffles broke my heart. She tried to act brave, but I could see right through it. She looked me dead in the eyes.
"What's your name?" I whispered. I smoothed down her tangled blonde curls.
"Lauren," she sniffed again.
"I promise you, Lauren, I will stop that man."
She wrapped her arms around my neck. "Is Lucy not coming back?"
I watched the destroyed father hold his dead baby girl while I held his living one. "You will see Lucy again some day."
Lauren sneezed. "Really?"
I nodded. "And when you do, you'll have so much good to tell her. You have no idea how happy she will be."
More pack members were arriving at the scene. Muffled cries could be heard all around. Thayer came to stand beside me.
"Are you my guardian angel?" Lauren whispered inside my ear. I pulled back in shock.
"Why would you think that?"
"You look like one, and you act like one. You came when I screamed, and you promised to stop that man. Are you my guardian angel?"
"No," Finally, Thayer spoke. "She's your future Luna."
I didn't have time to refute, for the destroyed father had grabbed my attention. I released Lauren, and marched over to the man.
He looked up at me, tears in his blue eyes. "You're Farrah?"
I nodded solemnly.
"You're the girl who knows the man who did this?"
Again, I nodded.
The destroyed Dad rose to meet me. He planted a firm hand on my shoulder. "Kill him."
I placed my hand over top of his. "I plan on it. And when I do, I want you to help me."
He smiled.
I turned to look at the pack. Hundreds of members stood in a semicircle, tears running down their faces and rage in their eyes. I felt something, maybe pride, swell inside my chest.
This is a pack.
"When we find Drake, we will kill him slowly, painfully, and mercilessly. When we find him, we will make him regret ever stepping foot onto our land! We will destroy him as a pack! We will attack with vengeance! We will prevail!"
Many shouts of agreement sounded from the pack. Someone let out a furious growl. I could see on every face the thirst for blood. I could see their faith in me. My voice had rung out loud and clear, leaving no mistake as to who was in charge.
Maybe, Thayer and Heather were right.
Maybe, I am a Luna.
