Since our fifth grade graduation, I'd managed to elude Victor Fuentes. He'd been so bent on demolishing my childhood that it's a wonder he didn't find me sooner. Once, during one of our third grade music teacher's lectures, I told Alan I thought Vic's singing voice sounded nice. The ginger then proceeded to shout out, "Kellin Quinn and Vic Fuentes are in love!"
Vic had flushed more brilliantly than a flamingo at all the pairs of eyes on him. I just pretended to find the ground fascinating until Vic spat, "I don't love him. He's a boy... and he's dumb." The teacher didn't do much about it; he just began some boring speech about the golden rule, but Vic still bothered me until the end of grade school.
I'd hoped to ignore him for as long as possible, that hope was annihilated but as I stood on the soccer field in my junior year of high school and trembled as Victor Fuentes came to the first practice of the season. I then came to the conclusion that Vic and I might be on the same team, but I'd never be on his side.
