A S S O O N A S I awoke, I knew something was off.
I could feel it seeping through my stomach like guilt. There was a name for that, I remembered. But that, I could not recall. I sat in bed, willing myself to get up though I could not manage it. My eyes opened groggily and surveyed the room. Nothing new there. Same creamy walls covered in drawings and sketches. Same black chair and bedspread. A few things on my desk had been sifted around, but just barely. Most would not have noticed anything, but then again, most did not have eyes as keen as mine, even when just awoken. I quickly dismissed the act and closed my eyes, assuming the movements were due to John's paws, as he often prowled about my desk.
Through the screeches of Cara's violin, I could faintly hear my radio humming the CD Elliott made for me not too long ago, quietly humming Stars Shine Darkly*. 'I was viewing your world through a telescope, then you opened my eyes and gave me hope...' Oh God, Elliott!! "Shit," I muttered under my breath. I attempted to fling the covers off, but it was no use. But even as sleep overcame me, I could not shake the feeling that something terribly wrong had happened.
*Stars Shine Darkly is a fictitious musical group. I apologize, although I will be using artists that can be found in reality, such as Owl City, as the title of this book suggests.
