A mermaid is allowed to swim to the surface on their 18th birthday, that's the tradition. I have been waiting for this day my whole life, all of my sisters already saw the world above.Each one of my sister come down from the surface and tell stories of how amazing the world above is.

Today is my 18th birthday, tomorrow I can finally see a whole new world. My father always told us that the world above is a cruel world, that's why a mermaid can only go once to swim to the surface. Little did he knew that I almost went to the surface a couple time.

As I get ready for the party I hear a knock on my door, as I open the door reaviling my grandmother. "Syrena dear you look lovely" she said as kissing both of my cheeks. "Thank you" I said with a small laugh. Grandma was wearing a purple dress with a gold crown, as for me I am wearing a white dress with gold and beige details and I let my golden hair down with a few pearls on it. Grandmother suddenly open a beautiful wooden box, inside there was a gorgeous silver crown. "Your mother wanted to give you this on your 18th birthday" she said sniffling. "This was her first crown actually, dear lord you look excactly like her. Beautiful" She smiled while wiping a few tears that escaped her eyes. I felt my own tears running down my cheeks without me noticing.

"This is wonderful, I wish she was here I miss her so much" I feel my tears pouring harder than before. "Don't cry dear, its your birthday your mother would want you to be happy" she smile while wiping my tears. She's right, mom would want be to be happy on my birthday. I smile as memories of her and me going through my head. "C'mon let's not be late on your party shall we?" she said, tugging on my hand. "Grandmother" I began, "everyone else is just early"

The whole night everyone was wishing me a happy birthday and I politely thanking them even though my mind was thinking about going to the surface tomorrow. "Syrena" I turn my head around to look at my sister, Hadley was calling me. "What's up Hadley?" I ask her "Dad's asking you to meet him" she said, as she follows me. It was hard to go through the crowd when every now and then someone wishing me a happy birthday. I spotted dad's glowing triton and swim towards him. "Hadley told me that you're looking for me" I said to him a little bit louder while tapping his shoulder "Ah syrena darling" exclaimed my father. "There is someone I want you to meet" he began, "someone very special, you see tha-" suddenly a handsome guy appears beside my father.

"Samuel my boy! Just the guy I wanted to see" said my father excitingly. The guy was insanely handsome, sharp jawline,high cheekbones and lord those abs. All of my positive thoughts about Samuel is gone as soon as my father open his mouth. "He is soon-to-be your husband"

I ran out of the castle the second my father told me the news, many people were looking but I didn't care at the moment. I cant marry him, I just turn 18 and I don't love the guy heck I just met the guy, how am I suppose to spend the rest of my life with him.

I keep swimming until I reach the surface, I don't even care what will my father say. As soon as I reach the surface my eyes are stuck on the night sky, it was a calming shade of blue with small white dots all over it. Even though the night sky was beautiful something else caught my eyes. Humans.

Their body moving gracefully to the beautiful sound. But what catch my eyes the most is the boy near the water. His eyes was focused on the water. I swim closer so I can see him more clearly. The boy was breath-taking, the moonlight makes him more beautiful, as I continue to admire him I accidently splash my tail loudly to the water making the boy eyes met mine. My eyes widen, I don't know what to do, I froze for a moment before diving to the depts of the ocean.

I just met the most beautiful creature, and I don't even know his name.

For a moment I just realize I don't know where to go, if I went back home my father would just force me marrying Samuel, obviously I cant stay here any longer.

I decided to go to grandmother house instead, knowing her she will comfort me with tea and stories about the humans world, her and mother were so a like that's why I like spending most of my time with her. Her house was beautiful, it is located near the castle the view is breathtaking. I knocked the door a few times before grandmother finally open the door.

"Syrena!" she lugged her self at me hugging my figure. "Darling, i was so worried. Are you okay? did anyone hurt you? oh my god you must be exhausted" she rambled while pulling me inside and notice me to seat. "Grandmother, i was just gone for a few hours i'm perfectly fine" i weakly smiled at her, she quickly notice there is something wrong, "What is it dear?" she said, while sitting beside me patting my head gently as i lay on her lap.

"Is it possible for a mermaid to have legs?"
