❝What rule was that?❞
❝I fell in love with you Sky.❞
❝You're not the only one breaking rules around here, because I fell in love with you too Kat.❞

Kat stared at her phone, lost in thought. Sky Hamilton wasn't a name she recognized, and she knew everyone at Jackson High. "The school year just started." She reasoned, tucking a piece of her long black hair behind her ear. "He must be a new student. I just hope I can help him, and have everything turn out okay. Not like-" No. She wouldn't let herself think about that. Now or ever. This was a new year, and Kat knew she had to redeem herself and not let the past resurface. °°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°° Sky Hamilton was up in his room, writing and trying to drown out the noise of his parents arguing downstairs. But as always, it was impossible. He held his breath, waiting for the inevitable sound he would hear when his father's fist connected with his mother's face. But it never came. And that only meant one thing. Either Sky or his sister Marissa would be their dad's scapegoat for the night. Sky was just about to check his phone to see if the person behind the Student Help Center responded when he heard his father thundering up the stairs. For the second time that night, Sky held his breath. His father slowly opened his bedroom door, and Sky had to do everything in his power to resist vomiting. The stench of alcohol was overwhelming. "What are you doing? You're still not trying to be a writer are you?" Sky's dad said, walking into the room and glancing over the piles of edited manuscripts covering his sons bed. He picked one up and looked at it with disdain. "Chasing Cass? What's this about? Sappy love crap? You know that no one is going to want to read this. You should just give up. It's trash. And you know what people do with trash? They throw it in the garbage." Sky stood there, waiting for his father's verbal assault to conclude. He didn't dare fight back. That would only piss his father off more, which meant the beating would be worse. But to his surprise, the punches and kicks never came. Instead, his dad backed out of his room, closed the door, and retreated to the living room. Sky logged in to Facebook and saw that he had gotten mentioned in a post.
