Jinyoung's POV
I enter my room after school and throw my bag on the floor. I flop on to my bed and continue eating the cookie hanging out of my mouth.
"Jinyoung. Come downstairs please," my mother called to me.
"Yes Eomma?" I answer once I get downstairs.
I see my father and brother there as well. They're all sitting in the living room and my parents have a serious yet excited look on their faces.
"What's wrong?" I ask concerned because we never really get together like this.
"Nothing's wrong. Something good happened actually," she told me as I sat next to my brother. "So, your father has been offered a job and he would be paid much more than right now."
"Wow, really? That's nice. But why do you need to sit us down and tell us this? You could just mention it at dinner," my older brother asked.
"Well," my Appa explained, "The job offer was from somewhere else. We would have to move."
"Where?" I wanted to know if I would ever see my friends again. There was a long silence.
"Korea," Appa finally said.
"All the way across the world?" my voice raised slightly.
"Did you accept it?" my brother asked. The only reply was a nod from my father.
"We'll be leaving week after next," my mother said. I sat and thought about it. Tears started to build up.
"I won't even get to spend my birthday with my friends?" I asked, trying to hold back tears.
"Actually we're leaving the day after your birthday. I'm sorry sweetie. If we didn't have to move, we wouldn't," my mom tried to comfort me but it didn't help.
"We don't even really speak much Korean though. How are we going to talk to anyone?" my oppa asked.
"You know enough and you'll be going to school and you can take classes to learn," Eomma said. My brother sighed in response.
"Is that all?"
My mother nodded and oppa quietly got up and went to his room. My parents watched him then looked at me with sad smiles. That's what finally broke me. I ran to my room with tears running down my face and locked the door. I crawled into my bed and cried into my pillow, making it wet.
I heard a knock at my door and told them to go away. There was another knock.
"Leave me alone."
A voice came from the other side of the door telling me to "open the door, please." The voice was my brother. I slowly got up and opened the door. As soon as it was open, my brother hugged me.
"It'll be ok. We're going to make new friends and learn lots of cool things and eat weird foods. We'll have lots of fun there," he told me.
"But I want to have fun here," I whined.
"I know but we just have to do what's best for the family. Once we're there you'll see how cool it is there. It's where our family is from. We can learn about all kinds of stuff and experience things we could never imagine here. Just give it a try." I started crying into his shirt and hugged him tighter.
"Ok."
*Present*
Suddenly I opened my eyes and sat up. As I wiped the drool from my cheek, I heard a voice next to me.
"Ya, you should really pay attention to the lesson instead of sleeping. Save that for when you get home." It was Taehyung oppa. He's my best friend of about 6 years and we have all the same classes.
The only reason he is my oppa is because he was born in 95. I was born in 96. The reason we have the same classes even though we are different ages is because the education systems in Korea and the US are different and I'm really smart.
"You're one to talk," I say as I look over at him. "I've had to cover up for you sleeping 3 times already this week. And it's only Tuesday." He just gave me a smile in response.
I rolled my eyes and quickly read what was on the board and copied some stuff. I also looked over at Taehyung oppa's stuff and copied a few things because I didn't really feel like thinking right now after having just woken up.
"So, were you dreaming? You were in a deep sleep. Seriously, you were drooling even," Tae oppa whispered.
"I was dreaming about when my parents told me I had to move to Korea. At the time I was crying because I didn't want to go. But look at me now. I couldn't be happier to be here," I respond.
"I'm glad you came here because if you didn't you wouldn't be my best friend. I wouldn't even know you. I doubt I would have many other friends either because we both opened each other up and we're less shy now. We needed each other to make our lives brighter," Taehyung oppa said with a slight smile.
"Wow. Deep," I replied sarcastically while looking at him.
"Way to ruin the moment Jinyoung-ah." I snickered, making him glare at me. This caused me to giggle which made Tae oppa start chuckling because he loves my laugh. This went on until the teacher noticed.
"Ahem. Is there something you would like to share?"
"No sir," we replied in unison. Taehyung oppa turned a little red while I just looked down.
"Oops," I just barely whispered.
"Yeah," Tae oppa whispered back.
The bell rang to go to the next class and everyone packed up and started leaving. The rest of the school day went by pretty uneventful. Once school ended, Tae oppa and I talked about who's house we would go to. We decided to go to his.
We walked to his house and talked about different things. Some of it stupid, some not so much. Once we got to his house we went up to his room and we did our homework. It's kind of surprising that we actually work considering we're best friends in the same room, without supervision.
Occasionally we'll look up and find the other staring, usually Taehyung oppa, then smile at each other. We're weird but that's ok.
After we had finished working we got food and played some video games. I was beating him when his eomma called us down for some reason.
