"Are you coming to this party on Friday?" I heard my best friend Aaliyah say to me. Somehow Aaliyah knows about all these social things and we just go together. I was trying to write my draft for my personal essay for early college submission. She was going through my closet trying to finding something that fit her. She's tiny compared to me at 5'3 and I'm almost 5'5 so it's close to impossible to share with her. She has dark skin and these cute little laugh lines to go with it which makes her look even more like a 5 year old than her height does.

"I don't have time to think about this right now," I said with my head buried in my binder, "If I were to do that, I'd spend an hour talking about it and another picking an outfit, but I know better so I'm just gonna walk away from that."

"Ok, first of all Ali it's never too early to think about clothes," she convinced, "Oh come on, you know you want to."

I half reluctantly and half really wanting to got up from my desk and said, "You know, I guess I could really use the fashion therapy."

"That's my girl!"

As I walked toward my closet on the other side of the room I felt the 3p.m sun shining on my skin. I don't know if it was just me but I felt like I was glowing. Instantly Aaliyah practically shouted, "That lighting, though! Perfect for a selfie." Almost on command we pulled out our matching Iphone 6s and started playing some music. Aaliyah played with her black and partially blonde box braids just enough for picture perfection. I myself made my big curly hair cover my face to make it look like I had bangs-which I've always wanted. I laid my edges, so did she and it was like a mini photoshoot. I made sure to turn on the snapchat filters on my phone. We made music videos in apps we have on our phones and took snaps. These things happen occasionally but whenever they do we have the most fun. About an hour later she said, "Okay that was fun but you really do need to figure out your outfit" as crashing into my queen size bed with silk sheets.

"When am I gonna finish my work?!", I asked her.

"Right afterwards, promise." she responded quickly, "Now let's decide!"

"Agreed. But-'lets'?" I responded confused.

"Oh, yes! There is gonna be some cute boys at this party"

"Thanks, Mom, but I'm a big girl and I think I can dress myself, thank you."I said sarcastically.

"Here's the deal, you pick an outfit for yourself and I'll pick one for you. We have 60 seconds and whichever one I choose wins." she said as she picked up my phone to set a timer.

"Wait how is this fair-"

"Just GO!" she said when I heard a beep from my phone.

We raced to my closet and started competitively picking out clothes while throwing some on the floor. When the timer went off again I was holding up a lavender colored long-sleeve crop top, a pair of black high waisted jeans and some black heeled booties. Aaliyah had a black mini dress with lace-trimming that I didn't know I had and a choker that I'll admit was really cute. For shoes it was pair of knee-high almost thigh-high clear heeled boots that I'm pretty sure I took from my mom.

"Uh, we're in a situation," I said first after we examined each other's outfits,"I don't understand why I can't just wear something I've sewn."

"No way!"

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"Nothing." Aaliyah said dismissively, "Okay, clearly we have some disagreements."

"Alright, well I have a suggestion", I said looking for a solution, "The top I chose, a regular necklace, my back mini skirt with lace-ups on the sides and the 'wonderwoman' shoes."

"You know how to bargain", Aaliyah said, "You got a deal." and we shook hands.

I didn't touch my essay for the rest of the day.
