???: "If you're leaving, I'll take you home. "
When I turn around to see who's talking to me, I see Izaac standing there.
"Oh, um, it's okay... "
I didn't know many people at the party so I stuck to Alex, Marc, and Izaac most of the time.
But Izaac hardly said a word to me the whole night.
(I thought he was just avoiding me.)
I study his face for a moment, but I can't read any kind of expression in his eyes.
"... Thanks, but I'm good. "
Izaac: "Have it your way. "
Izaac quickly draws back at my refusal.
(Since Alex brought me to the party, I can't leave without saying goodbye to him.)
I walk over to where Alex was sitting.
He's chatting with Marc and a few other friends. They look like they're having a good time.
"Hey, Alex. I think I'll head home. "
Alex: "You're leaving already? "
He gives me a puzzled look.
Marc: "You're kidding right? The party's just getting started. "
"I promised my dad I'd be home before midnight. "
Marc: "You've got a curfew? Man, your dad must really be overprotective. "
Marc asks, sounding surprised, and his friends stop and turn to glance at both of us and laugh.
Alex: "So you really have to go?"
"Yeah, I'm sorry. "
Alex: "I guess it can't be helped then. "
Alex gets up from his chair.
"What are you doing? "
Marc: "Are you gonna take her home? "
Alex: "Yeah. "
Alex replies casually, giving him a nod.
Marc: "Seriously? "
"It's alright, Alex. You don't have to. "
Alex: "What do you think you're doing? "
"I don't know what you mean, I- "
Alex: "I invited you to the party, right? And now you say you're leaving me here and going home... Are you trying to make me look bad? "
"No, not at all!"
Marc: "Can't you stay a bit longer? "
