I zoomed in on the father who was holding his daughter. Taking a still of their smiling faces as she used darts to try and pop the balloon on the wall, her father's hands guiding her. I pulled the camera away from my face to observe the photo, their laughter seemed to be heard even through an unmoving picture.

I moved through the carnival, stopping every once and a while to take a picture of families and friends.

The screams that echoed off of rides and the smell of popcorn and cotton candy seemed to linger in the air around me.

The carnival only came to our city once a year. I mean, even though we had lunar park to go to, it was full of tourists, and the people living in the more quiet suburbs on the outskirts of Sydney tend to stay away from the area, so naturally everyone gets excited when the carnival comes to town.

Although I wasn't here for leisure, I was here for work.

I often put ads out in the paper to get work, and therefore I usually end up being a photographer at weddings, birthday parties and local events such as this.

I was majoring in English and law at UNSW, and minoring in photography, so I needed the extra cash so that I could continue eating two minute noodles every night, and not starve to death.

My mum was an artist, so she helped pay my tuition, but she couldn't pay for all of it, so I needed jobs like this to get me through.

My shift was almost over, so I went over to the staff tent and handed over the storage cards. I packed up my cameras and placed them in my camera bags before finding my best friends, Macy and Oliver, and heading home with them.

xXx

"Well, you chose the right ones to keep," Macy said, looking at the photos that I had kept from the carnival, the father daughter one among them. Oliver was peering over her shoulder at them.

I always kept a certain amount of photos from my jobs to go on my website, which was run by Macy.

Macy was the tech genius in our trio, and was currently doing a computer engineering course at my university. Graduation was about two months away and she already had offers from Apple, Samsung and Sony, as well as other smaller brands asking her to come work in their labs.

She created a website for me about two years back, and it showcased all my best works, so that anyone looking to hire me for an event knew what they were paying for.

"Thank you," I said sheepishly, "I'm going to shower, can you two handle the website for me?"

"Yeah of course, take your time," Oliver said, looking at a photo of a little boy holding a stick of blue fairy floss that was bigger than him.

I put my phone on charge before heading into the bathroom, letting the steaming water realax my tense muscles. The final assessments for my final year of university were just around the corner, so I was pretty on edge lately.

I heard a squeal from my bedroom, so it must have been pretty loud if i could hear it over the running water, although it sounded more like a happy and excited scream than a frightened one.

Curiosity was gnawing away at me so I sped up the process of showering and and quickly dried off.

Once I was dried off and I had changed into a pair of grey sweatpants and a loose fitting purple t-shirt, I hung my towels up and headed back into the bedroom.

When I walked in I was quite nervous to see Macy putting my phone back on the charger, a huge smile on her face, while Oliver was giggling like a teenage girl.

"What did you do to my baby?" I panicked as I ran over to the charger.

I was confused to see all my notifications were still on there lock screen, meaning she hadn't opened my phone.

I checked my camera roll, but she hadn't taken any photos. What did she do?

"I didn't do aaanything..." She smiled, dragging out the 'a' in anything, "Anyway me and Oliver are gonna go, bye!" She grabbed Oliver's hand and ran out of my bedroom.

"Bye?" I questioned, now all alone.

I crawled into bed and watched an episode of Gossip girl, envying Leighton Meister's beauty. The kind of beauty that I didn't possess with my brown hair, green eyes and freckles.

I scrolled through my Instagram feed, before clicking on the icon the would take me into my account. I knew that there was nothing new there, but I liked to look at it anyway, just to make sure.

None of the photos on my Instagram account had my face in them. My Instagram feed consisted of some the photographs I'd taken and some of me. The photos of me never showed my face. I always had something in front of it, whether it be my camera or something else.

My most recent photo was of me sitting at a cafe, my coffee cup in front of my face.

Why would I put my face onto Instagram? There's nothing special about it.

As usual, I checked my emails before I went to sleep, seeing if I had any offers for any events.

There was one email that caught my attention.

Dear Ms Fry,

Regarding an ad we saw in the paper, we would like you to be our photographer. However, this would not be a normal event. After calling you and speaking to a girl by the name of Macy, we took her advice and looked at your website. After much consideration, it was decided that we would like you to be a photographer for the 5 Seconds of Summer, sounds live feels live tour. All expenses would be paid for you to accompany us, and you would attend all events and shows. We would like to discuss the details with you in person, and take another look at your portfolio with the boys.

Please reply to this email as soon as possible to discuss a meeting time.

Sincerely, 5sos tour team.

I emailed back quickly, asking to set up a time to meet.

This was huge oh my god!

Touring with 5 Seconds of Summer!

Wait, who are 5 Seconds of Summer?

I hastily searched them up on the internet, and looked at their profile.

Ohhh yeah, they're the ones who sang that underwear song, where everyone in the video started stripping. I remember them now.

I scanned through their wikipedia page, and was shocked to see that they toured with one direction, and were also the ones who wrote amnesia and good girls, two songs I'd heard on the radio.

This was a lot bigger than I thought it would be. Was I cut out for this?

I got an email back, and we set up a time to meet at 11am tomorrow morning, where I would meet the boys and go over the finer details.

That gave me time to talk to my mum as well.

My mum...

How would she take the news of me traveling around the world with a boy band?

With a million-and-one thoughts racing around in my head, I fell asleep.
