Bucky awoke sometime later, although he didn't know how much later, with a massive headache. He was lying flat on his back on a rather uncomfortable bed, staring up at a ceiling fan. When he sat up, he could see Steve laying on a bed next to his, underneath the window sill. On the wall Steve's bed rested against, Bucky could see a small desk with a mirror resting on the wall above it, a vase of flowers on one of the desk corners, and a radio on the other corner.

The radio was broadcasting a baseball game. Bucky thought that this game sounded familiar, almost like he had been in the stadium watching the game instead of listening to it over the radio. Before he had anymore time to process what was going on, he saw Steve sit up out of the corner of his eye. He started to say something before he was interrupted by the door opening. A brunette woman stepped through and stood at the end of their beds.

"Good morning, boys. Or, should I say afternoon." she smiled at the two men after she looked up from checking her watch.

"Where are we?" Steve demanded, his voice hoarse from misuse.

"You're in a recovery room in New York City." she answered. The two men glanced around the room skeptically before they eye each other cautiously.

"Where are we really?" Steve demanded once more.

"I'm afraid I don't understand." the woman spoke nervously.

"The game, it's from May, 1941. I know 'cuz I was there." Bucky speaks up as he finally puts all the puzzle pieces together. Steve's face falls in realization. They had gone down in the plane in 1945, four years after the baseball game happened. Steve, Charlotte, and Bucky had all gone to the game as part of Charlotte's birthday present that year.

"I'm gonna ask you again, where are we?" Steve demanded in a low tone. He had stood up from the bed and was now slowly walking towards the woman, who didn't seem at all frightened, despite Steve's muscular build and the height difference between the two. Bucky pushed himself off of his bed to stand behind Steve.

"Captain Rogers, Sergeant Barnes..." the woman warned before Bucky cut her off by loudly demanding to know who she was. His tone of voice must have attracted attention, because the door suddenly swung open, revealing two men dressed in black armor.

Steve and Bucky panicked, not knowing what to do. So, they did what they do best. They fought. Steve took care of the first one while Bucky took care of the other. The two men weren't very skilled in combat, though, as both Bucky and Steve were able to throw both men through the paper thin wall seconds after they began their fight.

The hole they created in the wall showed Steve and Bucky that they, in fact, were not in New York City. Or at least, the New York City they remembered. They leaped through the hole, and took in their surroundings before they took off out of the room.

"Captain Rogers, Sergeant Barnes wait!" the woman called after them.

"All agents, code thirteen. Repeat, all agents code thirteen." the two men could hear the strange woman's voice follow them as they ran down the hallway and into a bright, open room. This new room was crowded with even more people, which startled Steve and Bucky even more. Steve turned and ran out the nearest door, with Bucky right behind them.

Although, going outside was worse. People filled the streets, pushing and shoving each other to get to their destination. Bright lights flashed from all angles, blinding the blonde and brunette. Car horns could be heard everywhere, however, these cars didn't look like the ones the two boys were used to.

They shared a frightened glance before taking off down the street again. Their identical outfits only furthered the interests and curiousness of the strangers they passed. It was only when they ran out into the middle of an intersection that the two men were stopped by a blockade of sleek black cars. A man in a long, black trench coat stepped out of one of the cars.

"At ease soldiers." he commanded in a deep voice. The two stared at the man, who had an eye patch over his left eye, as he walked towards them.

"Look, I'm sorry about that little show back there, but we thought it best to break it to you two slowly." the man continued to say when he stood mere inches in front of the two very terrified men.

"Break what?" Bucky demanded, breathless.

"You've been asleep, Sergeant. For almost seventy years."

Both men's faces fell. They didn't understand how that could have happened, there was no scientific explanation, at least that they didn't know of yet. They shared a downcast glance before they stared at the ground again. Now, they both realized there was no hope of saving Charlotte. Even if she had survived the fall, she would most likely be dead by now anyways. It pained both men to think about such a thing when they so badly missed her and wanted her back.

"I know that this kind of information can be difficult to process, but right now we need to get both of you somewhere more private. Follow me." the strange man demanded before he turned on his heel and walked back towards the car he got out of. Numbly, the two boys followed him, opting to sit together in the backseat. Now that there was absolutely no hope of rescuing Charlotte, or seeing any of their old friends, the other was all they had left.

They'd be damned if they lost each other. The two men stared at their laps as the driver took them to their new destination. The man with the eye patch, silently watched them in the rear view mirror. He carefully gauged their reactions in order to make sure they wouldn't be a threat to anyone's safety.

"Where are you taking us?" Bucky asked quietly. He looked up from his lap and stared at the man in the passenger seat.

"Somewhere safe where you two can begin adjusting to your new life." the man answered him. Steve stared at Bucky like a lost child. He was glad that he still had his best friend. This new world terrified him and the thought of living in it without Charlotte was even worse. But at least he still had Bucky.

Eventually, the car rolled to a stop outside a large building. The man with the eye patch stepped outside the car and waited for the two men to get out as well.

"This is where you two will be living for the time being. You two will share an apartment, here is a key for each of you. Inside, you will find new clothes for each of you already in your rooms. Your apartment is already fully furnished, so all you two need to worry about is getting up to speed with what's happened since you two went down in that plane." the man informed them before he handed each of them a small, silver key and a rather large manila folder with their names written across the top, respectively.

"Uh, thank you, sir." Steve spoke sincerely. The man with the eye patch nodded at Steve before he grabbed his hand and shook it. The man then proceeded to do the same with Bucky.

"If you ever need anything, call this number and I'll dispatch someone to come help you." the man with the eye patch gave a final nod to the two men before he got back in the car.

"Sir, what's your name?" Bucky called after him before he could shut the door.

"Don't worry, Sergeant Barnes, you'll find out in good time." the man responded vaguely with a smirk stretched across his face. He then proceeded to shut the car door before it sped away, leaving the two men standing on the curb, out of place and out of time.

that was a really weird ending, but it didn't mean that they were about to die, just that they aren't from the era, if you hadn't already known that, which I should hope that you do :)
