The time is 4000 AD and the old world has fallen. It fell because of the human trait individuality. So the human race took action with the only reasonable solution, they banned it. Of course, not everyone believed in the corrupt government. There were people who defied the ban.
If anyone tried to be an individual the government would kill them and cutting off their hands and tongues with a chef's knife post-mortem. Their hands and tongues were displayed to keep the public in line. The government cut off their hands and tongues so they couldn't share their ideas after death, and they used a chef's knife from the old world to remind people of how it failed. Whenever the government killed somebody they would turn to the public and say "Do you see this? This is one of your people! This person defied us! Don't do the same!"
It's perfect! Nobody can argue over who is better, and everybody works in harmony. The society can't get any better. Or can it?
