His Baby

chapter 1: back story

Marten was born to two loving parents on a cold December night in a sleepy, rural town. The midwife took one look at the screaming baby boy and knew something was very wrong. No sooner than the little boy nestled to his mothers breast, was the midwife pulling him away "I have to call the doctor immediately!" the midwife yelped as she wrapped the baby in a blanket. "what are you doing with my baby?!" cried Mrs. Latham as she reached for her crying son "he is fine!". the midwife said nothing as she hurried out the door, leaving the very unhappy little boy crying in a basket. Mr. Latham walked over to his new son and soon saw what the nurse was talking about; their new baby boy was a Hermaphrodite.

Not much later, the midwife returned with the doctor in tow. Dr. Gordon gave baby Marten Latham a clean bill of health, but he was indeed, very different from other babies. The doctor tried to explain to the new parents their son's extremely rare condition and the possible surgeries he would have to have over time. Doctor Gordon went on to explain how the baby would need multiple scans to determine the extent of his condition and if surgery was even an option. However, the decision was clear to Mrs Latham; they had been given the baby and they would accept the tiny child as he was. Mr Latham, however supported the idea of surgery as soon has he was strong enough.

days felt like years as the new parents waited to see what the verdict on their son. As the doctor feared, it was much worse than he had originally thought; Marten had external penis, and no balls. just under that, he had a slightly deformed vaginal entrance. internally he had a partial set of female organs as well: a partial formation of a uterus and a single ovary. Because Marten was so tiny, surgery would be extremely dangerous, so the Latham's simply decided to wait until he was older to allow him to decide. caring for their little boy was not going to be easy, they will have many challenges to overcome; the slight development of breast when he was 11, the starting of a period when he was 14, and the absence of facial hair; hormones would help this in the future. But the worst would come when he was only 18 years old.
