I shut my locker, a little bit harder than I intended.  I noticed a few people jumped at the sound of it.  I pressed my lips together and headed outside.
It was finally time to go home, and the last day of school.
Summer break.
"Sean!" I called.
My friend Sean looked up from his phone.
"Hey." He said walking towards me.
"Ready?" I asked.
"Yea." He turned around.
"Sean!" I heard a familiar voice call.
"I'll be right back." He told me.
He went and meant Signe, his girlfriend.
I could hear them talking, but I couldn't understand what they were saying.  The smile on his face faded, into a look of hurt.  She backed away slowly, and then got on her bus home.
"What was that?" I asked, once he came back over here.
"She broke up with me." He said it with a tone of disbelief.
"I'm sorry." I said as we began walking.
"Yea.  I think I'm just gonna go home.  Text me later." He said quietly.
"Come on, man.  I thought we were gonna hang out." I frowned.
"I know." He nodded.
"Get your mind off it.  Come chill out for a bit." I put my hands in the pockets of my jeans.
"Okay." He sighed.
"It'll be fun." I promised.
"Right." He chuckled.
"It will!" I laughed.
I was secretly kind of glad that him and Signe finally split up, because I found Sean kind of attractive.  I felt guilty for wanting them to break up, but I couldn't help it.
When we got to my house, we went to my room.
"I can't believe it's finally summer.  We don't have to worry about anything." Sean smiled.
"Yea.  We can finally hang out, without worrying about curfews or homework." I agreed.
"I also can't believe I'll be single.  For the whole summer." He sighed as he sat on my bed.
Maybe not.
"Maybe you won't." I shrugged.
"What do you mean?" He asked.
Don't tell him yet.
"Maybe you'll find another girl." I sat down beside him and turned on my phone.
"I don't need a girlfriend.  You're my best friend, and that's all I need." He told me.
"Oh." I chuckled.
"That was weird." He laughed.
"No, not really." I smiled.
