God, how I miss him. How my heart splinters and cracks and shatters into a trillion tiny shards at the thought of being separated from him for another day. How my soul cringes and writhes in the pain of deprivation of the one thing that gives me light, that let's me shine and glow and conquer all encroaching darkness. How I miss the soft breath of my mount, the curious twitch of his ears, the friendly knicker he greets me with, when I see him after a long day of hardship. Oh, how much joy he brings me. How much his friendship lifts my spirit. How much his trust strengthens my own. How much his love gives me the courage to stand up and fight. How I miss the feeling of the sleek leather seat beneath me, the hard leather reins wrapped between my fingers, my feet gently balanced in the irons of my stirrups. The feeling of perfect unison; utter harmony as we move together, two bodies, one soul. The wind caressing my face, whipping his mane back as we glide over the springy turf; cradled in his smooth rolling canter, lifted above the ground on invisible wings. There is no true way to put into words the freedom and exhilaration and complete solace that graces the soul of a human bound to an equine by nothing more than love and trust. It is the most precious gift that God could have bestowed upon his child, and I pray He have mercy, and grace me with my old, trusted friend once more. One last time, to set my caged heart free and let my spirit soar with him; as fast as he gallops, as high as he jumps. Let me know the true meaning of happiness, after the agony has released its ice cold grip from my suffering heart, and let me take a soothing breath, his heart beating next to mine. Agony, is now a stranger to me, a dim memory chased away by a pure ray of light sent from the hands of God Himself. He is merciful. He is loving. And His grace flows within the exceptional beast I call none other than my friend. Without my horse, there is no me; as a horse without an equestrian is still a horse, but an equestrian without a horse is only just a human.
