The smell of freshly cut grass fills my nostrils as I slip out of my mums shiny car and throw my bag over my shoulder. I was always nervous on the first day of school but today was different. It was my senior year. My heart pounded against my chest as I begin to walk closer to the bottom of the stairs. I see a few people staring at me and small whispers as a bubbly girl with black hair and dark brown eyes starts jumping over towards me. I give her a small and sincere wave and as she reaches me and pulls me into a tight bear hug.
"Hey Kat," Peyton said with a natural confidence, " How was your summer? Australia must have been amazing! Right? Or was it not? Oh, no! Because I heard once that they have some pretty horrible bugs and that the ..."
I zoned out as Peyton started rambling on about all the instances that I could of accidentally drowned to death. Peyton and I had been best friends since preschool. She has been there with me through everything, my Dad leaving my Mum and I, when we had to put my pet dog Brynn down and early last year when my boyfriend at the time, sent very private and personal pictures which were only meant for him, of my body to the whole school. Before I took those pictures I had everything. I was the captain of the Cheerleading Team, had an 'amazing' Quarterback Boyfriend, I was the most popular girl on our school and anybody would have been honour to talk to me. But now I'm known as 'social suicide' and are just laughed at anyone and everyone.
"Kat? Katerina?," Peyton said knocking me back into reality.
"Oh, err, Australia was great," I say remembering the amazing memorises I made whilst on summer break, " It's a super fun and chill place. We should go there together after we graduate."
"O-M-G, YES!," Peyton said loudly making a few students glare at her, " This has got to happen!"
"Peyton chill, we have a whole year before we graduate and get to finally leave this place," I say reminding her, "Anyways, how were your holidays?"
"Ugh, it sucked," she groaned as we started walking up the long staircase to the school entrance, " I was stuck with Mum and Darry, her new boyfriend, and watch them make out almost everyday."
I chuckled at her misfortune and stepped over the last step before we enter the school corridor. My legs were shaking I took a deep breath as I felt Peyton tug on my hand giving it a small pull reassuring me. I gave a a small smile thanking her as we both push though the heavy metal doors.
