Kira was walking home from school when her friend, Dakoda, stopped her. "Hey, Kira, you want a ride?" Kira thought for a moment. She shrugged 'Why not?' She asked herself. Kira got into the black truck and put her seat belt on. "You got any plans for the weekend?" Dakoda asked as he put the truck in drive. "Not really. Do you?" Kira replied. "No, but I was thinking that we could hang out if you're up for it." Dakoda said. Kira just looked out the window for a moment. She wanted to get away from the house. Her parents hadn't been getting along that well lately. Maybe a day or two away would help. Kira turned to Dakoda and replied "Sure, why not? A day or two out should do me good." "Alright then. It's decided. I'll pick you up at two tomorrow." Dakoda stated with a smile on his face. Dakoda turned and pulled up to the two-story brick house. "Well, here we are." Dakoda said. "Thanks for the ride. I'll see you tomorrow." Kira replied while getting out of the truck. "Alright, see you tomorrow." Dakoda said before driving off. Kira watched him drive down the road until his truck got out o sight. She sighed and turned to the front door. She dreaded this moment. Everyday. She doesn't want to call this place home. Oh, by the way, Dakoda's going to pick me up tomorrow at two." Kira replied. "Oh. Alright, just be home by eleven." Her mom said. With that Kira headed up to her room and took a nap.

Kira woke up to her mom yelling for her to come eat dinner. She slowly got out of bed and walked downstairs. She sat down at the table and started eating the meal her mother had prepared. Her father had just got home from work and say down at the table next to Kira. Her father finished. Soon after Kira finished. She started walking to the kitchen to put away her dishes. Kira soon regreted it. In the kitchen, her mother and father were arguing. He was complaining about her doing dishes. Kira put her dishes up and walked over to her parents. "Can't you guys go one damn day without arguing?!" Kira yelled. Her parents looked at her. Her father walked over to her. "You have no right yelling like that!!" After her father yelled, he smacked her in the face. "James!!" Kira's mother yelled. Kira stood there, tears swelling up I'm her eyes. Kira looked at her mother, then her father. She quickly turned and ran out the back door. She heard her mom yelling for her. She ignored her. Kira kept running. Tears were storming from her face. She didn't know where she was going, she didn't care.

When she stopped running, she realized she was in the forest. She saw a large oak tree and curled up at the bottom of it. She rocked and cried herself to sleep, thinking about the even that just happened
