I stood in front of him with tears streaming down my cheeks. His face showed sadness and some other emotion I couldn't pin point. It felt like the air had been sucked out of me and my lungs were collapsing. My throat felt dry, almost like I was trying to swallow sand.
"I'm sorry" I choked out.
I made my way to the door and as soon as my hand made contact with the handle, he grabbed my arm.
"Michael what are you doing?"
I looked up at the boy. He had tears in his eyes that were threatening to spill over onto his cheeks at any moment.
"Don't go" he whispered.
I looked to the door and stared at it for a minute before turning my gaze back to him. The tears started falling down his cheeks and I felt terrible.
"Please Phoenix don't go" he said, his voice cracking.
I reached out and wiped away his tears before hugging him tightly.
"I'm not going anywhere"
