Kai'lani I. Perez

My Christian Louboutin heels clicked against the hardwood floors as I walked down the long hallway to my office. I walked into my office to see my personal assistant and good friend Brittany talking on the phone. I walked over to my mahogany colored desk and took a seat in my black oval office chair. I sat my purse down on the ground and waited for Brittany to get off the phone and tell me my agenda for today. Brittany sat down the phone and wrote something down in her book.

"Good morning Kai'lani. Mr. Thompson needs for you to send in your latest photos from the Big Sean project. Also Valerie Walker, Chris Brown's manager has accepted to letting Chris have a photoshoot and interview with us, tomorrow at one o'clock." She acknowledged. I nodded and wrote down the time on my large desk size calendar. I logged into my MacBook and went to the folder with Big Sean's photos. I emailed them to my boss and closed out of the pictures.

"You do go on vacation after tomorrow, right?" She inquired.

"Yes. Two months paid vacation. Do you know who will be covering for me while I'm gone?" I inquired.

"Hannah." She stated. My blood began to boil. Hannah Nelson, the most conniving person I've ever met. She was in her early 20's like myself and things she runs things around here. She tried to get me fired once but I had evidences that put her silly accusations to a fault.

"You have got to be kidding me. She tried to get me fired to crying out loud. I'll rather kiss a bamboo's ass before I let her cover for me."

"Kai I tried to convince Mr. Thompson that it was a bad idea but he had already made his decision."

Before another word could leave my mouth, my office door opened. Mr. Thompson, my boss walked inside.

"Afternoon ladies." He greeted.

"Good afternoon Mr. Thompson. What brings you here?" I inquired.

"First, I wanted to say your shots of Big Sean were very amazing. Second, I am sure that Brittany has told you who is covering for you."

"Yes sir. I am very aware. Can I ask why she is covering for me after the little incident we have had. Not trying to disrespect you or your decision but I don't think she's the best for my job and quality of work."

"I'm afraid we had no choice. She's qualified to do your job." He stated.

"All I am asking is that when I come back from my vacation, everything is in order and not all over the place. The last thing I want to do when I come back is to have to clean up messes she may have made."

"I will make sure of that Ms. Perez. Have a great vacation." He promised before walking out of my office. I glanced up at my clock, 4:26. One more hour before I get to leave. I got up from my chair and walked out my office. I walked down the flight of stairs to the photoshoot floor. My favorite tech friends, Nick and Joe were playing around with cameras.

"Hey guys." I greeted. They turned and gave me a smile.

"Hey head photographer. What are you doing down here?" Nick inquired.

"I have a photoshoot tomorrow at one with Chris Brown. I just needed to come down and see if everything is ready." I told them.

"Everything at your section is up and ready. We always make sure to start with yours first. Also remember that polaroid camera you wanted me to fix for you?" Joe inquired.

"Yes did you fix it?" I inquired.

"Yes. It's at my house and I'll bring it to you tomorrow."

I nodded, "Okay. Well I'll see you boys tomorrow and I'll try to be down here early so you can make sure my camera is functioning correctly." I told them before walking back upstairs. I walked into my office and grabbed my purse from the floor. Days like this really make me appreciate my job a little bit more. I walked over to the elevator and pressed the call button. The elevator door opened and I walked inside. I hit the number one and the doors closed. I have plans to go out to Applebee's with my two best friends, CJ and Melissa. It was a thing that every week, we have to go out to eat. Which I don't mind because I love being around them.

The doors opened and I walked out of the building. Working for XXL, one of the most popular magazine in the world of Hip-Hop is such a responsible. We're always working to keep our magazine on top. Just two weeks ago, we did our freshman class photos. I love my job because I get to work with legends and new faces in the music industry. It's always something spectacular to meet these rappers and work with them.

I hit the unlock button to my 2016 dark grey customized Jeep Wrangler. I climbed inside and sat my purse in the back seat. It was my turn to pick up my best friends. I started my car and drove out of the parking lot. Jhene Aiko's Souled Out album played throughout my speakers. I pulled into the apartment complex CJ lived in. I took a right and honked the horn alerting him I was here. He came out of his apartment. He opened the passenger door and got in.

"Hey Indy." He greeted me by my middle name which is India.

"Hey Jerome." I greeted. He flicked me off and turned up the radio. CJ and I meet in high school in Chemistry class. The teacher had put me in a group with him and we immediately clicked. Everything after that is a blur. I pulled into Melissa's neighborhood. She lived in a three story mansion with her husband Keith. They are the definition of true and tough love. I pulled into the driveway behind Keith's Ferrari. I honked the horn and she came out. She walked over to the Jeep. CJ opened the door and let down the seat. Melissa got in the back and sat her bag down. CJ put the seat up and got back in. I backed out of her driveway and pulled off.

"I see that glow. You just got some." CJ stated as he looked back at her.

"I did, I did. It was good too. The kitchen and the shower."

"Ooh y'all nasty." I joked as I scrunched up my face.

"You wouldn't be making that face if you had a man and he was giving it to you on the regular." Melissa smirked.

"Lissa I have a career to focus on and plus there aren't any good men out here. They are all the same and I don't have time for it." I told her as I stopped at the light. Both of my friends have boyfriends. They are good with it but with me, I need to know a person real well to even consider going out with them. I've had my heart broken too many times to try and get broken again.
