Chapter 5
"Briefing on the jet." Hotch said as he walked past our desks
"Got it." JJ reassured him
"Grab your go bags we will be gone for a little while it sounds like." Rossi added
"Hey Spence, are you sure I can come with you guys?" Haylee questioned
"Yes, but if it will make you happy I will check with Hotch again...okay?" Reid answered
"Thanks!" Haylee respond
Reid walked over to Hotch's office. Hotch was on an important phone call so Reid had to wait a few minutes. When Hotch finally got off the phone he asked Reid what he needed.
"May I help you Reid?" Hotch asked
"Yes, my sister Haylee wants me to make sure that it is okay if she joins us." Reid said
"Oh yes that is perfectly fine. She can stay with Garcia when we are out." Hotch replied
"Thank you sir I will let her know." Reid responded
Spencer walked out of Hotch's office and gave a thumbs up to Haylee
"We are cleared for flying!" Spencer said
"Yay!" Haylee squealed
Everyone is on the jet now and they are reviewing the case while Haylee was sitting towards the back reading. While everyone was talking you could see that Reid kept looking over at Haylee to make sure she was okay.
"Wow." JJ said while talking to Prentiss
"What?" Prentiss answered
"Spence keeps looking back at Haylee." JJ replied
"He really loves and cares for her" Prentiss responded
"He hasn't seen her in 10 years. I wonder what it is like to not see your sister for 10 years and not knowing if she will ever come back." JJ added
"That must be so hard." Prentiss said
Now Reid was basically staring at Haylee to make sure she was okay. It has been a half an hour and she is done with 3 books and a half.
"I wonder if he will ever break focus. He is just staring at her now." JJ said to break the silence
"Reid. You okay?" Prentiss asked
There was silence for a few moments.
"What? Wait. Yea I'm fine." Spencer said breaking the silence once again.
"H-Haylee y-you okay? Reid questioned
"Oh yea I'm fine. I almost finished the Hunger Games series." Haylee answered
"I should have brought more books with me hahaha" She added
"I forgot you can read like Spencer." JJ said
"Well I actually can only read 18,000 words per minute and Spencer can read 20,000, but yes I read very fast." Haylee added with a giggle
"Okay then, you keep reading." Prentiss
"T-thanks" Haylee said awkwardly because she did not know what to answer.
The rest of the plane trip was just like normal. Morgan and Reid played chess, JJ read a magazine, Prentiss was looking out the window, and Rossi and Hotch were looking over the case once again. For once Reid was losing. He was not focused in his game. Reid was very protective over Haylee, all he wanted was to keep her safe.
"Reid, you never ever loose in a chess game. What's wrong?" Morgan asked because he realized Reid wasn't paying attention
"All I want to do is keep Haylee safe and I don't know if I can working here.I-I mean remember what happened to Elle with the Fisher King?! I can't let that happen to Haylee." Reid exclaimed with a worried look on his face.
"Spencer I understand, you're very worried. I would be too if my little sisters lived down here." Morgan answered
"The only thing you need to do is be a great big brother. Protect her from the normal things in life like when she breaks up with her future boyfriend." Morgan added, smirking at that last comment.
"Okay please do not bring dating into this!" Reid begged
"Sorry pretty boy, it's going to happen someday." Morgan joked
"Ugh I hope that day's not soon." Reid sighed
"You wanna take a break from chess for a little?" Morgan questioned
"Yes, thank you." Spencer replied
Now Morgan was reading a muscle magazine and Reid was staring at Haylee going over all the unsubs thats took girls Haylee's age. "What if someone took her?" he wondered "Would I ever forgive myself for not watching her closer?" he thought. By now they have been on the plane for at least 2 hours and had another 1 and a half to go. Haylee had finished the Hunger Games series and had fallen asleep. Reid awkwardly stood up trying not to draw attention to himself. He slowly and quietly walked over to Haylee in the back and sat down in the next seat beside her. This case is a brutal one. In the past 2 weeks 4 girls have died. They have all been taken from around their high school or college . The dumping sites were all near the elementary school the went to. All the victims had burns and were strangled with an object. A belt, rope, etc.
"This is a horrible case. Barely any leads." Rossi said to himself
" Reid, check out the photos again. You might be able to find something. Just like that case when the girls had "help me" carved into their stomachs." Morgan said bringing Reid out of his gaze
"Oh um, o-okay. Can you hand them over to me." Reid questioned
"Here." Morgan said as he handed the pictures over.
Reid carefully scanned over the pictures once again. He made sure he tilted the pictures so Haylee would not see them if she woke up. After examining them closely he finally found something. He walked over and sat down closer to Morgan.
"Hey Morgan?" Reid questioned
"Yea, what did you find?" Morgan replied
"Right here on the side of the bodies, it looks as if there is something in the wood chips in the playground. A piece of paper maybe." Reid answered
"Hotch you hearing this?" Morgan asked
"Yes. When we land I want Reid and Morgan to visit the dumping spots, JJ and Prentiss talk with the girls' families, and Rossi come with me to the abduction sites." Hotch ordered
"Hey what about me! Do they have a security room I can work in? Garcia asked from the front of the plane. Everyone forgot she was even there.
"Yes. I already checked with the local police station. They have camera's around the schools that they were taken from." Hotch answered
"Okay. Haylee can stay with me when you guys are out on the field." Garcia said
"I just have one request...okay?" Reid said to Garcia
"Anything for you sweetie." Garcia giggled
"O-okay t-thanks but can you make sure Haylee doesn't see any pictures of victims." Reid asked quietly while he glanced over at Haylee.
"Not a problem." Garcia replied
