Sophie didn't respond for 37 seconds.

"My mother was a good woman. She wouldn't have wanted you dead." she spoke in only a whisper

"So you did it for your mom?" He raised his eyebrows. "Why do I find that hard to believe?"

She didn't say anything.

He leaned forward, staring into her brown eyes. "Why'd you do it?" he asked again.

"I don't know." she shrugged

"Yes you do." he pushed her

"Fine. It was too easy. A mean person like you shouldn't die so easily. You should live forever and be tortured for the rest of your life. I wouldn't want my father to eliminate the possibility that it could happen." Sophie spoke bitterly

Harry threw his head back and laughed. When he'd met her gaze again, his green eyes were filled with amusement.

"You can deny it, but for some reason, you don't want me dead. Maybe because deep down....Deep, deep, DEEP down, you know that I'm right about your father. And deep, deep, deep down you know I'm the only one who can really protect you."

"Why would my father want to kill me?" her voice quavered. "He loves me."

"That may be true," he mused. "But he also loves his throne. He loves his power and once you've been crowned
queen, that's all over."

"You think he wants to kill me so he can continue to be king?" the princess asked in shock

Harry shrugged. "Yes. I believe that very much."

Sophie tilted her head to one side, eyeing him suspiciously. "Why do you care?"

Harry stared back. "Does it matter?"

"You want me to believe that my father wants to kill me. Obviously, you don't care very much for me. So what difference would it make if I was killed or not?"

"Maybe I have hope for you. Maybe I have hope that you won't become a dictator like your father. Maybe I have hope that you could help me." Harry's gaze turned to his large hands

"How could I help?" she questioned

"There are very many ways you can help. First off, Al insists that we don't lock your door anymore. Something about how you saved my life so I should trust you or...whatever. If we don't lock your door, I need to believe that you won't run off." he hard stare burning through her brown eyes

Sophie bit her lip, but said nothing.

"And if you earn my trust, Alice has a role for you."

"That role is?"

Harry hesitated for a moment "A rebel."

Sophie's eyes widened. "Why would you want me to be a rebel?" she asked in utter confusion

"You obviously have the talent for it," he stated. "And you have the contacts. You could be a good rebel."

She eyed him warily.

Harry sighed. "And Al thinks I need a partner."

"A partner?"

"Alice's partner is Noah. The guy we were with before. Adam, the guy you fooled last night, he has a partner named Lily. Everyone has a partner." he informed her

"Except you?"

"Except me." he conformed

"Why?"
