We stared at each other for a moment before my mouth finally twitched and I couldn't hold in my excitement any longer. My mouth opened and I was no longer in control of the giggles escaping. Instantly as if contagious, Vanessa started laughing hysterically with me.
"We did it! We're here!" I yelled. I tried to run around, but instead collided with some boxes on the floor.
"Oh Cellie" She shook her head before leaning over and offering me her hand. I grabbed it gratefully and allowed her to pull me up. "Yeah we did" She responded softly. It was moments like these that I treasured. Moments when her eyes were the softest shade of amber and her face was completely relaxed. I stared into her eyes completely in awe at their beauty. I found myself wanting to hold onto her outstretched hand forever. Like usual, each of these thoughts hit me like sharp rocks; surprising and unwanted. I shook my head and smiled at her before releasing her hand and walking over to my multiple suitcases that were piled onto my bed in a disorganized pile. Needing a reason to shift my minds attention else ware, I grabbed the nearest bag and unzipped it.
"Come on Nes! The quicker we unpack, the quicker we can explore the campus." I said adding extra excitement. She shook her head before walking over to her own bed and grabbing ahold of the first bag. The first item I unpacked was a large book.
"Oh no," I groaned, "Looks like my mom thought I would need this. There goes my plans for partying like crazy and sleeping with everyone. Are orgies still a thing?." I laughed.
"You and the word orgy should never be in the same sentence" choked Vanessa as her giggles escaped. I smiled at her before placing the bible gently inside my desk. I may not be as strictly Christian as my mom, but that doesn't mean that I didn't share some beliefs. Vanessa laughed along with me before placing her Ipod into her now assembled dock.
"Done!" I yelled happily, staring at the room. Admittedly the room was pretty small, but that didn't make it any less cozy. Our beds were in an L-formation to create the illusion that there was more room. In between the two closets sat our large micro fridge with the small flat screen that Vanessa and I insisted to our parents that we needed. Overall the set up was perfect. My dresser was too tall to hide under my bed, so it was inside the closet and my desk was in between my bed and closet. We were able to hide My PS4 in my closet on top of my dresser with the wires tucked safely out of the way.
"Finally." Said Vanessa. She hopped off her bed and stood next to me, "it looks perfect." We shared a smile and again I found myself unable to look away. It felt like we were sharing more than just this room, it was like we were starting our lives; together. After everything our friendship went through these past few years, we were finally in a good place. A soft knocking on the door broke through my thoughts and ended the moment abruptly.
Vanessa walked over to the door hastily and threw it open, while I sat on top of my desk and watched as her expression went from happy to suddenly extremely annoyed. I scooted over so I could see our guest face better.
"What are you doing here?" she asked, a smirk now plastered onto her face.
"Seriously Vanessa, we have known each other for four years. The least you could do is pretend to like me by now" I heard a loud voice scold.
"Very long," Interrupted Vanessa.
"Yes in fact they were extremely long years." Huffed Makayla , "We even at one point I believe were slightly friends" Vanessa stared at her with a blank look, "Okay maybe mere acquaintances. I was hoping we could put all of our differences aside and become friends." Vanessa's hand was twitching on the door and I could almost foresee the door slamming in Makayla's face. Even though Vanessa and Makayla never became good friends, Makayla and I did. She helped me a lot over these last few years and once you look past her flaws, she could be the most loyal and caring friend.
