Chapter 2

Dally's POV

I don't know what possessed me to walk around our town alone at this ungodly hour, but something about it felt right. It was a harsh winter night, and I could feel the temperature nipping at my exposed skin. I tugged up the collar on my leather jacket, and lit a cigarette as I continued towards the park. I shuddered as I approached the fountain, remembering that only months ago, Pony and Johnny had been in this exact spot, scared to death. If it hadn't have been for that son of a bitch Bob, Johnny would still be here now. I thought, a growl escaping my lips. I shifted my gaze to the swing set, where I was surprised to see a girl sitting there alone. What the hell was a beautiful girl doing sitting out here in the cold? Hell, might as well go over and talk to her. I reasoned. Since that broad at the movies had turned me down so fast, I deserved to have a little chat with another gal. I trudged over to the girl, blowing smoke out through my lips. She didn't notice me until I was almost next to her, but when she did look up, her face was stricken with terror.

"Woah, relax. I just thought I could come sit with you. I mean, it's a little romantic don't you think?" I took a step closer, since she seemed a little less afraid of me. She looked up at me with blue-green, teary eyes. God, she was beautiful. Compared to her, that red head was nothing.

"Say, what's a pretty gal like you doing alone at this time of night? You gotta death wish?" I asked, sitting on the swing beside her. She shook her head, and for a second, I thought I saw a smile tug at her lips. It drove me nuts. Every second I looked at her she became more gorgeous. Her hair was a shade of brown I couldn't quite put my finger on. It wasn't straight or curly, but it looked amazing on her. Her lips were the perfect shade of pink, and those eyes; they were like beach glass, so clear and-

"Stop staring at me." She said quietly. I could hear the smile in her voice.

"Sorry, I just think you're quite a looker." I replied. "I think I'll stay awhile, that okay with you doll?"

"I don't know..." she muttered.

"Come on, I've got cancer sticks and good company, what else could you possibly want from me?" I could tell she liked me, she was smiling ear to ear, and blushing like a little kid.

"Okay," she said, turning to face me. "But you gotta let me bum one." She gestured towards my cigarettes.

"Fair trade." I smirked, handing one over. It wasn't until I handed her the lighter, that I saw the bruises on her arms.
