Pain

    Elsie was used to pain; after her many surgeries trying to cure her deafness, it was normal for her. But this pain was unbearable.
    It was in her eyes- it felt like there were thousands and thousands of tiny chainsaws pounding about inside her eye. She collapsed into a screaming heap on the floor, before she was rushed into an ambulance.
    She woke up with a tube feeding into her nose. It was pumping warm air. A tall, dark skinned man was peering down at her, and smiled. It was that sort of smile that says "I guess I'm the one who has to break the bad news." But what was the bad news?
    He got out a whiteboard from his pocket and started writing. "Elsie, you have fundamental nerve disorder in both your eyes." He'd run out of space, so rubbed out the writing with the corner of his sleeve and took a big breath.
    "Your going blind."
