Puppy Luv: Chapter 19

Start from the beginning

I was about to ask why when Jacob came in. He was shirtless, of course, and dripping wet. He shook out his hair a bit and looked at Nessie with a frown.

"Hey Jake." She smiled cheekily and waved. His frown just got deeper and he narrowed his eyes. "I have a perfectly good reason as to why I did what I did."

"Um, okay," I said awkwardly, "I'll let you two talk by yourselves."

I rushed out of the kitchen and into the living room, giving them they're privacy. At first I just sat down on the couch, but I couldn't help myself: I had to see Seth. Whether or not he was awake. So I took a deep breath, let it out slowly, and made my way upstairs.

Seth POV

My body ached all over, but that was a good thing. It meant I was still alive. I tried to move my arm, but it hurt too much. Also a good thing, because that way I know it's still there.

The last thing I remembered before I passed out was the feeling of the vampire's acid venom shoot through my bloodstream. Wait, what? I know that happened, but then how was I still alive? That should've killed me. What the heck happened while I was asleep?

Was it one of the Cullens? When Bella was bitten Edward sucked the venom out. But even with their speed there was no way they would've been able to get there in time.

Maybe I really was dead and the pain was just an illusion of hope. But I was pretty sure I was alive. My chest rose, even though it hurt. I still had to breathe. So I was alive. But how?

I was vaguely aware that there was someone in the room with me, but my senses were weak and I couldn't tell who. Only when a warm hand grabbed mine did I know.

"Evy?" I managed to get out, though I could barely hear myself.

"Seth?" Evy answered in a panicked voice, "Are you awake?"

"Somewhat." I mumbled, and opened my eyes slowly. The light was harsh at first, and I had to squint against it until my eyes adjusted. They went from the ceiling to Evy's face, which was stained with tears. "What's wrong?"

She laughed humorlessly and shook her head, "Typical. You're practically on your death bed and you ask what's wrong with me?"

            "You were crying…"

"Because of you. I was worried, Seth. I've been sitting here for hours waiting. Carlisle said you'd be fine after rest, but I couldn't help myself from worrying about you."

"Well, Carlisle was right, I'll be fine. But I'd like to know why. That venom should've killed me, but something happened. What was it?"

"Oh…" she started awkwardly, "don't freak out like Jake, Bella, and Edward okay?"

"Why would I freak out?" I asked.

"Because… because Renesmee sucked out the venom from your blood to save you."

"What? She sucked it out? But that could've hurt her! Is she okay?"

"Yes, she's perfectly fine. But either the venom didn't go with her body, or your blood didn't taste very good cuz she barfed her guts out afterwards. It was pretty nasty. A mixture of blood and mushy pizza. Ugh."

"I can't believe she did that. I owe her big time."

I stopped and stared at the blanket covering me, even though I didn't need it. I just remembered the deal Nessie and I made. If no one got hurt I'd have to tell her she was my imprint. But I got hurt big time. So now it was up to me. Should I? But she was only gonna be here for another month. I don't think I could tell her just to have her go away. No, I wouldn't. I'd just leave things the way they were and enjoy the rest of the summer as close friends.

"Something wrong Seth?" Evy asked, breaking my thoughts.

"Huh? Oh, no, just a bit tired." I answered.

How does she do that? I thought. She always knows when I'm hiding something.

"Oh, well then I should probably go."

She started to stand up to go, but I reached out a hand to stop her. "Um, actually, can you stay here? I wanna make sure you're okay. They haven't found him yet have they?"

Evy sat down and shook her head slowly. "No, and I'm not sure if they will. But now we know how he's doing it all, so we could work around it if he comes back."

"Let's hope we won't have to worry about that."

"Yeah." Evy sighed, and leaned back in the small chair she was sitting in.

"Evy?" I asked, breaking the silence.

            "Yeah Seth?" she answered.

"Do you… do you regret coming here for the summer? I mean, almost since day one everything's been crazy and nothing but trouble for you."

"True, but no, I don't regret it. Cuz then I would regret meeting you and everyone else. I could never regret that… You're a great friend Seth."

Those last words were more like an afterthought, but I got the point. "Yeah, friends." I answered quietly.
