The lights stood unconditionally in the pouring rain, refusing to move.

The sky cried as the clouds crackled above.

His shoe slapped the pavement, the sound echoed in the night filled with roars of cars.

They were freezing, their only source of warmth was their hands clasping each other,

Sending adrenaline and the buzz of fear and happiness rushing through them.

With a mix of excitement and fear made its way across their youthful faces.

The dull roar of cars whizzed past them as they ran without a care.

All they could hear was their beating hearts and the emptiness of their mind as they ran.

Ran away from the broken home that they left behind,

The whispers and rumors flying around the town

The scowling faces of adults that looked down them with disapproval,

But they didn't care, they didn't need their approval, their lies they made up, or a happy family.

Because for now, all they cared about was running away.

Daydreaming about this moment since the day their parents screamed,

Here they are.

The boy met the girls eye, both smiling gratefully as words were briefly exchanged.

"I love you,"

Because they didn't care what it meant,

Or the fact that they were too young,

It just felt right.

Just like running.

It just felt right.
