As Mrs. Thompson called out the names in the background I heard some people comment, "Isn't Charlotte's skirt too short, I wonder why no one points it out to her!"

Slowly and gradually all my friends and students were admitted to their classes, while I was standing alone in the corridor.

"Why are you standing here? Don't you want to go to your classroom?" said Mrs. Thompson.

"Well, actually, I do really want to go but I think there has been a terrible mistake on the management's side. My name wasn't called out at all!" I said rather casually.

"Well, my dear what's your name then?"

"Bryan, Bryan Harding."

"Okay, let me check the list, Bryan." she said checking the list of students.

"Oh, you're right, your name actually does not exist here!" she said, and asked me to go to the 'A' section and wait till she came again.

I went inside the class and saw that our whole group was present there and was waving to me like they were wiping the windows! I sat beside Ashley, as I couldn't separate Fred and Lucy and Harold and Jennifer, and told them all that had happened in the corridor. I was interrupted by Mrs. Thompson entering the class and searching for someone.

"Bryan!" she called out.

"Yes, Mrs. Thompson." I said, standing up.

"I'm so sorry, my dear, it was totally my fault-"

"Oh, no problem, Mrs. Thompson."

"I didn't check the list properly. You are in this section-"

"Okay Mrs. Thompson."

"-and if you have any problem-"

"Oh no, no, Mrs. Thompson, I really don't have any problem."

"Well, its good that you don't. But stop calling me Mrs. Thompson again and again."

"Oh, okay Mrs. Thompson." I said rather mischievously and lowering my head and putting my right hand at the back of my head, winked at Ashley and smiled. I hadn't seen her but she was trying to control her laugh from a very long time, it seemed and then she burst into laughter; Mrs. Thompson had already left the classroom.

Our class teacher Mrs. Cynthia Bradley entered the room, greeted us and went off with the same lecture, we'd been hearing since childhood. However, we all listened with our ears closed, thinking how we were going to spend the day. I was thinking of my basketball tournament was around the corner and we needed a strict training.

In the recess we were training in the basketball court, when Ashley quietly came in and sat down on a bench in the corner. She was always like this, hiding in the corner and not wanting to come out in the open. As soon as I clean swiped a basket our coach announced that the training was over. I was walking towards Ashley who was holding a water bottle for me when she said,

"Hey you slay, boy!". I smiled, and asked her,

"Did the sun rise from the opposite direction?"

"Well, no. I was just hoping to catch a glimpse of you before I went to attend the lecture."

"Oh, I see. It seems someone was missing me?"

Yeah, yeah. Now you would be thinking that." she said, rolling her eyes.

"Okay, Miss Drama Queen! And as for now its almost time for your lecture to begin," I said glancing at my watch, "but if you don't want to go, maybe we can grab a bite in the canteen?" I asked.

"Yeah sure, mister. We, of course, can!"

I removed my basketball jersey revealing my muscles and abs, and put on my sweatshirt.

"So what's your plan for tomorrow?" Ashley asked, munching on a big bite of her burger. I looked up at the ceiling and replied,

"Umm... Maybe stay back at home and practice for the upcoming basketball tournament. Why do you ask?"

"I was thinking maybe we could go out for a movie and have some fun."

"Oh! I'm so very sorry sweetie., I would have loved to come, but as you know mom's not at home so I'll be to prepare the dinner!"

"Okay!" she said rather disappointedly, but after some moment she sprang up with an idea which illuminated her face, "Hey, what do you say if I come over your place and help you a little? I mean, I can cook dinner for you and watch you practice?"

"That's a cool idea! Yeah for sure!"

"Okay so it's set then." she said wiping her face with a tissue.

Ashley was about to get up when she saw Charlotte entering.

"Oh look. Who comes here? It's Cherry, your best friend!" I said teasingly

"Yeah, such a great friend that she came following me in the same section." she said making a face.

"Don't be so rude to her. I've started to think that she's pretty!" I smirked.

"Of course, you have! And why don't you go up to her and talk. After all since she entered she's been staring at you like you're some chocolate pudding!" she said crossly, and I mentally laughed at her choice of words.

"Dear oh dear! Now look who's jealous here?! I said that I've started to think she's pretty not that she actually is. And besides there us no one prettier than you!" I flirted.

Ashely got up, smiled, promised to meet after school and asked me to pay the bill. It's her way of punishing me for teasing her and I liked to do that.
