Rhythm Of Stars

Prologue

I can hear the wind from the window. It was like whispering to my ear.

Someone suddenly knocked at the door and the doctor came in with the result. I'm nervous.

"Good morning, Artemis. Did you sleep well?" Asked Doctor Romero.
"Yes doc! I even had a dream."
"Is that so? Can you tell me?"
I know that he's asking me just to let me feel nothing's to worry about.
"My dream says I see myself as a doctor just like you, saving lives."
When I said those words, the atmosphere changed. The doctor looked away. From the very start when he came in I know that he's going to bring me bad news.

"Tell me, doc, am I okay?" I asked him straight-forward.

He pulled a mono bloc chair beside my bed and tried to stared me in the eye but he can't. I knew it!

He held my hand so tight and said those heart-breaking words "Art, the result says you have leukemia, stage 3. Y-you still have a chance to live as long as we cure it immediately." I shut my eyes so tight and sighed heavily. I closed my fist and opened my eyes.

I know Doctor Romero feels bad about my situation but as long as he's here, I won't cry. Just like Artemis in greek mythology, she's brave, strong and I want to be like her.

I looked away "If it is really my fate, so be it. Accept the fate."

He loosened his hand on mine. I know he can't believe what I said. Who would?

He let go of my hand and stood up. "I'll see you later, Art. My daughter." He left the room with gloomy atmosphere.

Yes, you read it right. He's my father, but I don't call him one. He left us when I was 13 years old just for another girl he thought he loved. That's why mom and him divorced.

What a cruel fate I have. Is this what I get from being a good girl?

"I'm okay. Yes, I am okay." I tried to convince myself as I said those words and my voice broke and tears started to fall in my eyes.
