I frowned. "Well...It still hasn't really hit me yet. I guess I'm thinking if I avoid it-"
"It won't happen?" He finished.
I didn't answer because he had read my mind.
"I guess you could say that this Mission isn't a very big accomplishment for me. I don't want to be here. At all." I said.
"Maybe that's why you were picked." He spun me in a circle making my head spin.
I must have looked puzzled because he continued.
"I have this theory that we were all picked because of something our ancestors did. And we're taking the punishment." He glowered. "For their wrongs."
"Who's wrongs?" I insisted.
"The Ancient Council of course." Zeke whispered. "The ones who call themselves the Immortals." He looked around in hesitation. "Of course the subject I speak of is forbidden. The Commander doesn't wish for unrest to be caused in the country, or what's left of it anyway. It would be best if I didn't say any more. But if you want to know more on the subject go tomorrow to the rose arc doorway across from the Saturn statue."
I frowned. "But whe-"
He looked at me alarmingly. "Shish!" He ordered. "I don't want to die today." He whispered frantically.
"Fine. But I do expect answers soon." I said grudgingly.
"Yes but like I said, not right now." Zeke warned.
The music stopped and he bowed.
"Pleasure dancing with you Capitan. See you again soon chica." He saluted and disappeared into the crowd.
"Pfft." I sputtered. "That was interesting." I turned around to come face to face with the General himself.
He smiled eerily. Like he knew what I had just been talking about. "Good evening Miss Luna. Enjoying yourself are you?"
I curtsied nervously. "Hello General Ajax. How are you today?"
He raised an eyebrow. "That depends...How are you handling things?"
"Uh well...All of this is very much unexpected, and yet it somehow feels so familiar. I just can't put my finger on it." I shook my head. "I don't suppose you know why?"
The General stared at me intently. "That depends....Do you?
He asks a lot of rhetorical questions.
"No. But I wish I did."
There was silence in which I avoided his eyes. The General made me nervous. A feeling that I was unaccustomed to. Luna James didn't get nervous, she was unshakeable.
He must have sensed that I was nervous because he chuckled. "Well I'll leave you to the festivities. Have a wonderful evening." And with that, he left.
I stood in the middle of the dance floor for a while pondering the two conversations I had just had in the last ten minutes. Everything about them had been familiar. Like I already knew everything about what they had talked about. And yet they felt completely foreign.
Well that's strange. This is the first time I've met either of them. And I've never even heard of the Ancient Council, or the Immortals. Have I? I groaned internally. I must be going crazy.
I don't think you're crazy. I heard a somehow familiar male voice say in my head.
I froze. Who is that?
I...I'm a friend. The voice replied.
You don't sound so sure to me. I argued.
It's not that. It's just that I-we have always been more than that.
