A/N:
Thank you so much for joining me for Quantum! The Prologue is essentially the initial idea that I jotted down many moons ago that I will craft into a novel. It sets up the basic premise and that yes, this is definitely more romance-y than I usually go for, but it should make for a fun ride! As it is the first day of NaNoWriMo, I'll look to post Chapter One today as well, which is mostly written thanks to the midnight kick-off word sprints. Please vote or comment on the story as it goes-- this is the first, rough draft, so all feedback is appreciated! :D

"Wow." Elli was breathless, watching the rainbow colors burst through the prisms of the giant chandelier that hung in the entrance hall to Songbird, the most exclusive club in the city. She had known her best friend Clara was planning some sort of surprise party for her birthday.... But this, this was so far beyond Elli's expectations she could only muster that one syllable reaction.
Clara shimmied on her 3-inch heels, watching Elli's expression with a delighted grin. "You love it, don't you?!"
It wasn't a question, but Elli felt obligated to respond. "Clara, this is amazing... I can't even imagine how you got us passes—thank you!"
"Only the best for my best friend's eighteenth birthday bash!" Clara squealed, dragging her under the chandelier over to the 7 foot mass of a doorman.
He glared at them for a moment as Clara dug in her clutch for the tickets. Elli tried to peek around his enormous frame to catch some glimpse of what the interior, thumping with music could look like.
"My bestie's legal today!" Clara chirped as she handed the doorman the passes and her ID.
Elli followed suit, taking her ID out of the wristlet she'd had stuffed in the back of her closet since grade 8 prom. Its silver sequins were still intact, making it look more impressive than the no-brand thrift find it was. She'd dug it out to go with the modest black dress she kept for special occasions. Paired with a set of glittery heels borrowed from Clara, Elli at least hoped she could pass as decent in the club's semi-dark. She nervously twisted a lock of her pale blonde hair. She'd left it down since it seemed to have a mind of its own tonight and refused to be forced into a suitable club style.
The doorman grunted at Clara and slapped a pulsing blue band on her left wrist. Clara turned to glance expectantly at Elli as she handed over her ID. The doorman squinted at her ID, scrutinizing it closer than the glance he's offered Clara's.
"Elli Dasek?"
She let out a nervous laugh as his steel gaze lifted from the ID to land on her.
He handed the ID back to her, and for half a heartbeat, she was afraid he wasn't going to let her in.
He motioned for her wrist and a wave of relief flowed through her. He slapped on a silver bangle with a bird charm.
Clara squealed and he waved for her wrist as well to exchange her bracelet out for one that matched Elli's and then handed her back her ID.
"Have fun." He grunted, shifting to the left to allow them through the ornate door.
"C'mon!" Clara dragged her in. "Do you know what this means?!"
"No idea—" Elli tried to get a better look at the bangle. It seemed awfully expensive for a club tag.
"These are VIP!" Clara's voice only lowered a decibel in her excitement. "Open tab, exclusive rooms! Backstage access-- Girl you are SO lucky!!"
