How did you discover Wattpad?
I got to Wattpad through another writing website: Booksie. I saw a lot of writers were on this site too, so I decided to check it out = )
How did you come up with your username?
Well, I'm a really opinionated person, and I like to do things my way. One of my friends told me I was really a "wild spirit". That stuck. I later added onto it when, during one of my rants, someone yelled, "Look out, she's on the loose!" So, putting the two together came out as wildspiritontheloose = )
When and how did you start writing stories?
I started writing in 4th grade. I was part of an enrichment program, so we got to do stuff outside of class. I'd usually be reading one book or another, as the school librarian and I had a really close relationship. At some point, she told me that she was running out of books for me to read, as I was racing through book after book. She told me I should try writing my own, so here I am today, still writing.
Do you base your characters off of real life people? If so, how and why?
Yes I do, but they're never completely one person. I like to mix and match, taking the flaws of one person I know and combining them with the strengths of another and the looks of yet another. I guess I do this to make my characters seem more realistic - if they're modelled on real people, it helps bring them to life on the page.
What are your current projects?
I am currently writing a romance/fantasy novel titled "Handsome & the Geek". It's a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, for those of you interested. I'm also starting on a short story that will be out sometime around Valentine's Day!
In any of your stories, which one of your characters is your favorite?
Alistair Vadim - he's a wizard. Doesn't get much better than that haha! Well, he's the one who turns the protagonist of "Handsome & the Geek" into a beast, or a geek in this case. He's just a nerd with magical powers. What's not to love?
Do you have a motto? If so, what is it?
Hmm... Hakunah Matata? Haha, I'm not sure if I have one. If I did, it would be something about perseverence and not giving up!
Who is your favorite Wattpad author?
Out of every author I've visited so far, I have to say GoldenBird7. When I read her writing, it's almost like reading an actual novel. It just flows so well, and I'm always sorry to come to the end of the page! Give her novel, CursEd a try - you won't regret it!
What's your inspiration of your stories?
It depends on the story. Handsome & the Geek was inspired by real life experiences. Some of my writing is also based on songs.
Tell us something about your story that you are currently writing so far.
Insert summary here? Nah, I'll just tell ya = ) It's basically a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, except the roles are reversed: the girl is the "beast" and the guy is the "beauty". Except the guy is Handsome and the girl is turned into a Geek. I decided to give it a little twist, just to make it more interesting!
Favourite book on Wattpad?
This is surprisingly not by my favourite author, though her book is amazing as well. I absolutely loved Lord Beast and Lessons on Love equally, though the latter is not yet finished. Both of them were a great read - I sat in front of my laptop for HOURS reading away!
Favourite type of stories you like to write?
I love writing romance and fantasy. One or the other, or combined! Doesn't matter really, they've always been my favourite genres = )
Do you have a role model you look up to?
In writing aspects, not really. I like being myself, and though my writing style may be influenced by what I read, I don't like modelling myself on someone. In other aspects, yes! My godmother's daughter has always been an amazing role model for me, and though I am still me, I've been told there are elements of her in my personality.
Do you prefer reading or writing and why?
If my creative juices are flowing - writing. If not, sit back and relax with a good book! It really just depends on the day = )
Describe three words about yourself.
Controlling. Band Geek. Perfectionist.
Take it or leave it.
What do you do when you have every writers' nightmare; writers' block?
I read. Whether I read over the story I'm currently working or I read something completely different, it usually gets my head working and thinking about new ideas to write about. If that doesn't work, music helps too = )
What do you do when you're not on Wattpad?
Play piano. Do homework. Dance. Sing really loudly. Volunteer at fundraisers. Yell at my brothers for stealing something from me. Again... I'm always busy = P
Random question: If you were allowed to dye your hair any color, what would it be?
Red. Bright red.
What do your friends describe you as?
Sarcastic. Pretty (but I don't believe them). An overachiever.
And, I quote: "You're sooo nice like half the time, but then when you have a bad day it's like WHO IS THIS BITCH?!" Hahaha, this guy pretty much summed me up!
Do you have a nickname?
Yes, and please don't laugh - Onion. My name's Anna, which in Polish is Ania (form of Anya). No one could say it when I told them, so it somehow transformed into Onion. That's the official reason; the unofficial one is that I have layers and I make people cry = P
Random question: What is your perfect/ideal date?
Well, I'm a hopeless romantic so... A walk on the docks at sunset? Laying underneath the stars together? Getting caught in the rain on your way back from a movie and kissing in the rain? I know, it's all so unrealistic *sigh*...
Do you have any shout outs you would like to say to your fans out there?
@GoldenBird7,@IfTheresHope,@writeon27 for reading all the way through the seven chapters (so far) and supporting me with such fabulous comments! And@soldrew for reading at all, seeing as you barely understand any of the girl stuff in it = P Thanks so much for being the first "real" readers, as I call them.
Lastly, do you have any advice for other writers?
Always remember to edit. Spelling, grammar, tenses - they all make a difference to readers. No one wants to read a novel that has no capitalization at all, unproperly placed punctuation, and changes tense every two sentences. Revising is the way to become a great writer = )
I think that's it for my not-so-wonderful-words-of-wisdom! Thanks so much for the interview!
