He walked up to her and stood there for a moment not saying a thing.
She was sitting at a table with her friends having lunch. She did not notice him right away. But once she did, she looked up at him alittle confused. She started to speak but he raised his hand and she stopped.
If you could give me just a few moments before you say anything I would appreciate it. I just have a few things to say then I will leave you to your afternoon. She nodded her head in agreement. He handed her a beautiful bouquet of brightly colored wild flowers, and he began to speak.
For almost a year now I have had the great pleasure of being a part of your life.
We have spent countless hours together watching movies and television shows, playing games with your kids, talking well into the night or just snuggeling together till one or both of us falls asleep.
There is not one second of our time together that I would change or give up. These moments, these memories are so very special to me.
She was still looking at him. She still seemed a bit confused, but she had a smile on her face. She had enjoyed all of the things he had mentioned as well. However she was a little embarassed he was doing this in front of her friends.
You see.. He continued.
At first we were just friends. We would stay up all hours of the night getting to know each other better. Sharing stories and dreams. When we met I was in a very dark place. And there you were, this shining warm ray of light just standing there helping me find my way back.
Talking turned into spending time together. And when we were not together all I could think about was when I would get to see you next.
Then one night it happened. I had some idea of how I was feeling. I did not mean for it to happen. To be very honest I was not sure I ever wanted it to happen again. But it did.
We were sitting on your couch watching a movie, your head was resting in my lap and you were fighting sleep.
Then when you were about to give in and go to sleep, you rolled over and buried your face in my chest and grabbed on to my shirt with both hands and you drifted off to sleep. You had a smile on your face and I held you like that for more than six hours. Some time with in that six hours I looked down at you smiling in your sleep and I knew. I knew that from that moment on i would do everything i could to make you smike like that as often as I could. I knew that I had fallen totally and completely in love with you.
This was about the moment he started to tear up. She had noticed them forming in the corner of his eyes. But he kept going, like he was scared to pause to long. He wiped away the tears before they had a chance to fall.
I waited and waited. We were great together. You loved me, but could not be in love with me. I am not the man you want or need in that way. I tried my best to be him for you. I wanted to spend the rest of my days on this earth trying to put that same peaceful smile on your face. To show you how beautiful you are on the inside as well as the out, and to help you realize just how wonderful you truly are. There is nothing I want more in this world than to hold you every night while you sleep, so you know you are safe and loved.
But I am not that guy. I am not the one who gets to watch all the expression your face makes while you are working on a puzzle. I am not the one you will go to sleep next to each and every night.
I am not the guy you will fall in love with for all the rest of the days of your life.
I am just the guy who is holding that guys place.
By this time she had started to cry. He wiped his face once more and leaned down to whisper just to her.
I have held his place for as long as I could. Doing so makes me happier then I have been in such a long time.
Even as it tares me apart slowly, knowing I am not the man who can make you feel loved each and every day.
He kissed her softly on the forehead. He stood up and said.
I have been in love with you for almost a year now, and I will be in love with you always.
And with that he turned from her and walked away.
