He began to think, trying to remember why the girl called Grey seemed so fond of him. Why she would've cried over him and why she was there when he woke up on the ground before he beheaded the boy who stuck the dagger in his back.
Mine
The word echoed in his head, growled out by a vicious voice that hardly sounded human. Yet in that voice, in the body of the beast, was an overwhelming feeling of pain, of sadness that he didn't know the beast was capable of. What had happened to break the unbreakable beast?
And then that sadness was gone, replaced by that lust for blood and the urge to let the beast be free again. So Alexei unleashed his beast, not knowing what chaos would soon ensue.

It was the time of night between late and early when Grey awoke. The sky was dark and the world was silent - peaceful almost. The wounds on her body were burning with each intake of breath and when she tried to move it only intensified. So she gave up, laying there and praying for sleep but there was a feeling that wrapped itself around her body and chilled her veins that made her unable to sleep. Finally, when the feeling didn't leave, she pushed through the pain and sat up sharply. All the breath was knocked from her lungs and pain shot through her body. She sat for a few solid minutes before pushing herself to stand and walking out of the room all the while clutching her chest.
Using the wall as her leverage, Grey managed to make it downstairs and was on her way to the kitchen when the front door slammed open and she shrieked. She spun around so fast her wounds opened up again and she was left breathless, once again, at the pain and at the sight of him.
He stood there, in the doorway, chest heaving up and down, glowing eyes locked on an unmoving Grey. Standing bare and naked, Grey was able to see all the blood that stained his body. It was everywhere.
She hurried over to him as he shut the door and tried to move up the stairs. "Are you hurt?" He growled. "Don't growl at me I'm trying to help!"
"I don't need your help." His voice was deep, shockingly so.
"You've got blood all over you!"
He stared at her with his flaming eyes and teeth bared. "It's not mine."
With that he pushed her to the ground and stomped up the stairs as Maksim came rushing down. Neither brother even spared the other a single glance, one too focused on his bloodlust and the other focused on a teary-eyed Grey.
Her voice was soft as she asked Maksim, "What did I do?"
"None of this is your fault, Grey." He helped her stand. "Don't feel guilty."
"Who did he kill?" Her eyes were now wide with fear. "Oh Maks, you've got to go figure it out! What if-"
"Grey." He spoke and sat her down on the couch, crouching to eye level with her. "There's nothing we can do-"
"How did you get him back after it happened before?" She was begging him. "I want Alexei, back. I don't want the beast, I want him."
Maksim emphasized every word he spoke. "There is nothing we can do. You need to worry about yourself right now, you're weak and one wrong move can have you fighting for your life."
"But Maks-"
"Grey."
She was fighting back tears as he went to go get more gauze to wrap Grey's chest with. And after cleaning it up and rewrapping her, he sent her back to bed and made sure her door was locked before he himself ventured into the trees to right his brother's wrong.
Just like old times.

By the time Maksim reached the town, it was just before sunrise. Thankfully no one was out as he prowled through the town as a large wolf, following the foul stench of death. Everything was silent as he walked quietly, so silent it worried him.
Then, all of a sudden, there they were.
Down a road that led south of the town, a road that held less houses and more trees either side of it than the others. On this road Maksim found bodies among bodies trailing down it. Bloody paw-prints lead to his brother, the humans would blame it on an animal attack but he knew Petra and the witch would be wary.
As he walked along the road, he had to force himself not to look away, not to turn back, for the sight was one even Maksim couldn't handle. His brother was dirtier than he'd been before, his kills were normally clean, while this one, each and every single person, all 25 of them - Maksim had counted - were torn limb from limb, heads ripped off and guts laying in the open.
He wanted to throw up.
And as the sun began to rise, he could see their faces, their lifeless eyes all staring up at the colorful sky, and he felt everything his brother should've. And he wept.
And when the voices began to approach, it took everything in him to pull himself away from the open and to hide in the shadows. He couldn't force himself to leave them until he knew they were taken care of properly. But he regretted staying the minute they were found by a man, who immediately got the whole town. He regretted staying to watch when he saw the families approach slowly. They stumbled forward, some stood back with wide eyes, too shocked to move, but everyone as they reached their person wept. They wept and they screamed. They yelled to the heavens, begging for their person back, pleading, asking why, why them?
Then there, in the back of the crowd stood Petra, watching it all with cold eyes. Maksim could see it in her eyes. She knew. And somehow he knew that everyone in the town would soon know too.
