The rain had finally lulled me into a dreamless sleep, at least I was hoping that it did. Ever since the age of eight I'd had the same nightmare. There was no rhyme or reason behind it, at least none that I could remember. It never came at the same time. I could sleep during the day or at night with the same exact result. A nightmare was sure to follow....

It's a dark night. My dad being the type of man that refuses to stop and ask for directions has gotten us lost once again. We we're on our way home from a cousin's birthday party, and it was late. I was falling asleep in the back seat, where i sat with my brother, John.

He was ten years older, so we were beyond the point of being mortal enemies. I was glad for that as he reached over and pulled me closer to him so that I could sleep better.

He, and my parents talked about some inconsequential thing as I drifted off in what was to become my last dreamless night ever.

It was March, but the winter was still in full force. Instead of snow covering the ground there was a sprinkling of rain which was much worse. The temperature had dropped so low in such a short time that it was turning into black ice.

I was jolted awake as the car skidded to a halt at a stop sign. I looked out the windshield with blurry eyes. I rubbed them trying to get the sleep out.
