Chapter One- Carmine Red
She is everything I want. She is my love. She is the stars, moon, and everything else. She is my universe. But she doesn't see it that way, sadly. "Sara, you alright?" I looked up at the sound of her voice. My everything. "Yep, just fine, Cam." "Good, now, let's go!" "Where are we going?" "Can you keep a secret?" I nodded. She leaned in and whispered in my ear: "On an adventure." She smiled before kissing my cheek and pulling on my wrist. There we go. On her adventure. She doesn't realize she already was the adventure and she's just pulling me along with her.
She led me through the trees, through the bushels and brush, through all the flooding sunlight from overhead. The sunlight hit her form perfectly, like everything else about her. Her long dark hair framed her tanned face as she looked back at me before heading back through the covered trail she made for us. She left daisies everywhere she walked, and cherry blossom petals seemed to fly through her perfectly swept hair. She looked beautiful. Compared to my short, curly dyed hair, she was a naturally beautiful flower, unlike me. "We're here."
I looked around and saw painted debris and rubble of a once-was-building along with overgrown grass and long, slender trees with leaves only at the top of the elongated branches. I gasped. I looked back at her. She was still more beautiful. She smiled her bright, beautiful smile like always and she again tugged on my wrist and we went down to the abandoned spot to gape at how amazing the sight was. We sat on top of the debris-building, or what was left of the top of it, and looked at how the different graffiti stood out on its own, leaving a mark that was unique to each and every one of those people. Our feet dangled over the ledge of that building, us casually holding hands while looking out at the decorated rubble that stood before us like it was set up like that, just naturally. Almost as natural as all the grass that grew around all of that debris, almost but not all the way. Unlike Cam. Unlike my everything.
She turned to face me, but I hadn't moved. I hadn't really noticed she moved until she was mere inches away from my own face. I turned, startled, and she slammed those soft lips onto my own. When she pulled back, my face was red and my hand flew straight to my lips. "Sorry..." She started. "Something came over me." I looked back at her. The sun was glowing right behind her figure. She looks like an angel. How'd I end up with her?
I grabbed her cheek with my cold hand, which surprised her, and she faced me again. She was about to say something before I did the same thing she did to me a second ago. This time, though, she didn't pull back right away and instead she pulled on my neck and brought me closer to her. When we did eventually pull back, she looked breathtaking. "Wow."
"You look amazing."
I was taken aback by her sudden statement. "What?" "You are...so beautiful." I paused, thinking of what exactly to say. "I am?" She nodded with a soft laugh crawling up her throat. When she let it out, it sounded so...
Natural.
Everything about her was amazingly beautiful and here she was, not noticing it at all. I doubt she could ever know how beautiful she is. If she only looks at her faults, I feel bad for her, because I'd kill to look that amazing. But, I wouldn't do that. Then I wouldn't have her to be with if I were her.
We stayed there until the stars dotted the dark, dark blue sky, knowing nothing could ever really be that scary color. Well, I guess something could, but I'd rather the illuminated blue night sky that had wispy purple clouds and millions of twinkling dots adorning it. That was much prettier than the boring color black with MAYBE a little sad crescent being outdone by all the street-posts lining the streets. That little crescent looks much prettier alongside stars. It looks...complete when there are more colors to a scene. More than two: Streetlamp Yellow and Pitch Black Sky.
We lied on our backs once we saw the sun disappear behind the tall trees just to watch all the stars appear in the darkening sky. It looked beautiful. She kept pointing out made up constellations as she made her own backstories to each. "That there is my cat, Bella Notte, she's an Italian tabby, that loves pasta but would much rather eat baguettes all day long. She's a pretty fat kitty." I laughed. She hadn't a cat, nor has she ever owned one in her life. She has a dog named Mazy and it's a ten year-old Lab that has blue eyes and blonde fur. She is half-blind, one-fourth-deaf but she still runs on all fours just fine.
"And there is a beautiful girl that has short curly hair and she is amazingly nerdy yet adorable at the same time." "What's her name?" "Sara." I looked at her. She smiled.
I had inched closer to her and held onto her arm. Tight. She had wrung her arm around my shoulders, bringing me even closer. She hadn't let her smile fade. Mine didn't either. I looked up at her, seeing that she was still staring at the stars. Her eyes were dark, perfectly reflecting the stars she saw. I smiled even wider. Then she looked down at me. She looked beautiful. Her long dark hair was dripping down the sides of her, next to me and my own curly locks. She seemed so much prettier than me, so then why, of all people, had she chosen me? "Hey, Sara?" "Mmhmm?" "You look so beautiful like that. Like always." She always knew what to say, how to say it, and when the perfect time was to say it.
My hand had left my mind until I felt a warm thing grab it. I looked down to see that Cam had intertwined her fingers in between mine. I squeezed back, making my cold hands feel weird next to her warm hands. She smiled wider. As did I. Is it possible for us to be so happy near the end of the day? Like, we were in complete darkness, not talking nor being able to see each other, and yet, we were so happily content with just us.
We lied down. We stared. We stayed.
She was so beautiful, always, no matter if she was confused, angry, annoyed, or just being annoying herself. Meanwhile, I'm here looking pissed off at everything until I met her. It's like she introduced me to this happier side of life I had not yet experienced. I was never the happiest person, especially since everyone I had ever known left because they "got bored with me". So, I started thinking that way. But, when she came in, it all just became clear. I had hated the Sun, how beautifully bright it was, taking over all the stars that could be but weren't when it came around. Then, when she came in, she taught me even the Sun could be gloomy and how many things you could do in the rain that wasn't sulk in a corner or just lie under thick covers and just listen. But, we had done that. She had me over during a terrible thunderstorm and she pulled out her thick, soft white duvet and we sat under it for hours, just listening to the pitter patter of the thickening rain drops and the sudden flash of light soon followed by a loud CLAP! and we just sat staring out her bedroom window until we both had fallen asleep. I woke up once I heard her voice coo at this rainbow shining in through her window. It was completely red, and we were completely fine with that.
