It was more than two hours later, and the she-devils were still throwing costumes around like feathers from a pillow. Pressing the heels of my hands to my eyes, phosphenes began to dance and sway across my closed lids.

One day, I would get my revenge; and that day shall be glorious.

What started as a soft, susurrus sound in the distance quickly turned into a booming call with the snorting of horses to punctuate each word.

"Here ye, here ye! The noble Prince Charming would like each peasant and lady at his royal ball, which shall be held in a days time, upon All Hallow's Eve. Don your best costume apparel, as his favourite shall be known by all the land as Queen!" Upon stating this message with great importance, the caravan clomped through the throngs of people, attempting to wade their way to the next street over.

In my head, I began to count down. In 3...2...1...

"CINDERELLA!" The dual forces of both brats nearly caused me to stumble to the gown-draped chair. With a stuttering breath, I began to have fabrics of all texture and hue thrust upon me, as if I was simply a hanger on which to place garments.

"I want this one," Amy cried out. "I demand to have this one!"

Always the seemingly complacent and docile elder sister, Emma calmly attempted to explain how the apparel Amy had chosen was not compatible with her eye colour. Emma insisted that the robin's egg blue would better accent her hazel eyes.

Eventually, the shopkeeper spoke with a sigh. "My dears, we have a storeroom in the back. If you wish, both of you could purchase this gown."

Amy and Emma glanced up at the shopkeeper, looking for all the world like a pair of rabid animals.

Emma stood, brushing off the imaginary specks of dust.

"Well," she spoke in a grand, haughty tone. "A princess must always have a second to back her up. This will be great practice for when I am crowned part of the royal family."

And with that, Emma turned upon her heel and sashayed out the door, leaving me to hastily purchase both dresses and Amy to chase after her.

Do you guys like it? It's the first real book I've written, and it already has a rating! #923 might not seem like a big accomplishment, but it does mean that if I scroll down far enough, my book will be there!
