The road was wet from rain, random puddles scattered along the dirt road, like debris from a war. The sky was a dark purple colour almost black. Clouds littered the sky hiding the light of the moon. The air was damp, like my clothes from the heavy down poor.
I ran along the road, fighting for air. I knew if I looked back I was as good as dead. My lungs burned with need, my muscles ached from exhaustion. But I knew if I stopped running, he would catch up. If he caught up, I would be dead. He would kill me for sure.
So I ran.
I ran down the dirt road, not knowing where I was going or where I was. I could hear the heavy foot falls behind me like the thumping of a heart.
The man chasing me wanted people like me dead, he didn't think we cared about our life, he thought we wanted to die. In his eyes we were some unnatural creature t be hunted down and killed.
"You can run but you can't hide Amanda. I will find you." he said, his words bringing a fear inside me that I thought I would never feel again.
I forced my legs to move faster, run quicker. My mind screamed at me to take a chance, try to beat him at his own game, but fear stopped me.
Fear that I wouldn't see my family again. Fear I would die on this rainy night. Fear of the pain he would inflict on me.
I heard the tap of his footsteps getting closer. I could hear his breath rasp out of his lungs, hear the blood pulsing through his veins. Blood that could save me.
But I had promised him, promised Sam, I wouldn't drink anymore. Human blood. I would not kill this faceless human because I loved Sam. Sam was human. The man chasing me was human. I forced my thoughts away from the blood pulsing just under the thin layer of skin. Sam wouldn't approve.
I turned my thoughts to Sam. Sam's brown shaggy hair, his blue eyes, his kind heart and cute smile. The way he kissed me, the way he talked to me, like I wasn't a monster.
I remembered the night we spent together on the beach, when he asked me to marry him. The insecurity in his eyes, like I could dream of saying no to him. I was so shocked. I couldn't imagine that he would even consider marrying someone like me, that I couldn't answer right away, to chocked up to say anything. He always thought he didn't deserve me but it was the other way around. I love him so much!
I remembered the night when he shared his blood with me. His warm skin against mine, his lips on my body as my teeth sank into his soft warm flesh. The out of body experience I had while I drank his warm blood, feeling the blood slid smoothly down my throat, making my heart beat as his hands ran up and down my body, bringing me pleasure.
It was magic, taking pleasure in each other's bodies, sharing our deepest self's.
"Get back here you bloodsucking demon!" His voice broke my chain of thought. Tears blurred my vision and ran down my cheeks leaving a trail of blood.
That was one thing I hated about being a vampire, my tears were blood. I used to try and hide them from Sam but he thought I shouldn't be ashamed. He really loved me!
I was so caught up in my thoughts about Sam that I tripped and fell, hitting the wet pavement hard. Before I could get up, my head was smashed against the pavement, grinding the flesh away from my cheek.
"Your mine now."
My killer flipped me over smashing my head against the ground again. I felt blood seep into my hair. My vision blurred and remained that way. I had lost to much blood to heal myself. I was going to die. He was going to win.
"You filthy animal, you can go back to where you came from!"
"Ottawa" I whispered.
"What?"
"I'm from Ottawa."
"No! Hell stupid. You can go to hell!"
With that he drove his stake into my chest, blood rose in my throat and filled my mouth. Blood poured out of my nose and eyes; my life was draining away.
My chest burned with the pain of the stake, cutting off my air, my life.
Blood spilled out of my mouth as he jerked the stake inside me. The last thing I saw was Sam prying the killer off of me, his salty tears staining his perfect face, he voice calling my name.
The last thing I saw was love
