By the time we got to the shack, the new girl knew all about my little Sarah and our lives here. She laughed and cried as I rattled on and on about my babygirl and how we lived. Finally as I got to the door and went to turn the handle it flew open and Sarah came running out, right into my arms.
"YAY! Your back! I missed you Daddy" she squeaked, ever so happy to have me back. Then she noticed the new girl and ran over to her.
"HI! Whats your name? Mine's Sarah" She said cheerfully as she pointed at me "That's Daniel! But alota people called him Danny for short. He's like my daddy. Did he tell you about me?"
I laughed and scooped her up in my arms, spinning her around in the air "Hush my little princess and let's go inside. Let the pretty girl catch her breath" I turned and looked at the new girl. "But I am curious, what is your name?"
"Melissa" She giggled as I carried Sarah inside the house.
Melissa...I thought to myself, that is a pretty name.
"And theres no need to ask yours." She giggled as she came inside, softly shutting the door behind her.
I smiled at her as I set Sarah down and went off to get some plates. Melissa seemed to look confused, "Whenever I come home, Sarah brings out something to eat, and we sit down like a family*
"Aawww thats so adorable" she said "espically since you guys have so little" She said with a smile
Sarah turned to her laughed as she brought the food out and set it on the three plates on our little folding table. I knew she meant well but her words cut deep. I looked around and realized that this was no place for Sarah....I had to do something. But I didn't know what.
"Daddy?" Sarah whispered
"Oh um..yes sweetie?" I mumbled back still trying to think of something.
"Well?" She asked again.
"Melissa said we could stay at her house tonight...can we? It'd be like a sleep over!" She squeaked.
I looked around and saw her and Melissa laughing like sisters.
"Well, is that the truth Mel?" I asked, curious to why a stranger would open their home to us.
"Of course! Sarah is sooo cute! She must take after her father" She whispered, blushing as soon as she realized what she said.
I laughed, happy to get Sarah out for a few days, and happy that Melissa was getting comfortable around me.
"Let's go then!"
