My Nazi Soldier

Chapter 1

I sat in the back room all alone. My eyes were closed as I was deep in thought, praying. I don't really do this often but this has been a troubling time for us these past few weeks. Hitler has taken over and now he's been taking all the Jews in Germany from their homes, forcing us into hiding. Our neighbors were taken but luckily we weren't home at the time so we were safe for now. I heard the front door slam open and then shut again.

I rolled my eyes. "Dad's home." I thought to myself. He's been drinking quiet frequently now a days. I tried to focus on my praying. The war was still going on. World War II to be precise. I was praying that me and my family will be safe through out the war. We are in more danger though. My whole family and I are Jews. We constantly had to stay in hiding from the Nazi soldiers parading around.

My thoughts where inturupted when the door to the back room burst open and a hundred guns were pointed straight at me. My eyes widened and my heart stopped. 'Oh my god' I thought to myself. Seconds later and elder women came through to the front of the room. She stood facing me in front of the Nazi soldiers. "There is the eldest one." She yelled. It was so dark in the back room that I couldn't see her face. But I recognized her voice. Harriet. "Miss Harriet?" I asked suspiciously. Miss Harriet is our neighbor who isn't a Jew. She never really liked us, but I never expected her to sell us out like this. "Yes deary, it's me. Take her away!" She yelled.

Suddenly I was bombarded by men trying to bind my hands. They dragged me out of the back room. "I hope you burn in Hell!" I spat at Harriet, venom in my voice. She just smiled an evil smile at me. They pushed me out of the house where I saw that they had my mother, father and older brother, Kurt. I tried to hide the tears that were trying to break free, but I stood strong. One Nazi threw me harshly into the back of a army truck. I hit my head on something hard and that's when the black over took me.

'

What seemed like moments later, my vision started to come back. I moaned as I sat up in the truck. I saw many men in green police uniforms. They were all engulfed in conversations and they were all speaking in German. I glanced around the truck and my family was nowhere to be seen. They must have put them on a different truck.

I tried to move my hands but they were bound by rope. Apparently I was making a bit of noise because they all stopped what they were doing and looked at me. I froze in my place in the corner as countless beady eyes fell on me. I felt myself shrink into the corner as one rose from his seat and approached me.

He had devilish blue eyes and platinum blond hair, which is to be expected. He smiled evilly at me and opened his mouth. "Schauen Sie, wer wach ist. Die jüdischen Abschaum" (Look who is awake, the Jewish scum.) I listened to his words and heard a low hum of laughter follow after it. My family and I are originally from Ireland, but we came to live here in Germany when I was small to help take care of my grandmother who was ill. I could pick up bits and pieces of what they were saying but not much.

"I a...not....um." I mumbled, my voice barely audible. The man crouched down to my level and cocked his head to the side and looked at me, his wicked grin growing larger. "Was sagst du, Mädchen?" (What did you say, girl?) He whispered to me. The smell of cigarettes invaded my nostrils and I began to cough. He began to laugh and I could feel my anger and courage mix together and build up inside my gut.

'I am not scum!" I yelled. In one swift motion i lifted my leg up and nailed him in the groin. I heard a oomf and my leg made contact and he fell to the ground. He recovered slightly, enough to get up and kick me in the chest, sending me back to the corner. I wrapped an arm around my chest as the pain began to grow. He may have broken my rib.

"Fleischer! Sie, jetzt!" (Fleischer! Take care of her, now!) The man commanded as he walked to the back of the truck. My vision was beginning to blur but I could see another man stand up from his seat on the truck. His dirty blond hair fell in long locks, down to his ears but that was about all I could make out. I followed him with my eyes as he made his way over to me slowly.

He mumbled something that I could not hear. I was about to say something when I felt a stinging sensation in my left cheek and then a pain shot out from the side of my head. I fought the darkness that was so desperate to consume me but in the end, the darkness one. All I saw was black.
