Running, as fast as I could my heart felt as if it would rupture through my chest. By now I had demolished at least seven miles trying to get to the square. No apparent mode of transportation for me but to travel old fashioned, I made it to the place where everyone had gathered.
I was expecting abrupt tatty commotion but instead I was greeted by silence as if it were night in the middle of the day. Keepers of the law and makers of the law itself were haunting the center of the square making everyone uneasy. Promptly, I obtained a seat, trying not to cause a scene for I knew there was to going to be a prestigious trial.
There were a few hundred seats available which didn't look like much, seeing that everyone showed up for this burdening event. While the rest of the moneyless folk hustled in on foot, the authorities began to speak.
"You all know why you've gathered here on this occasion. For there is a trial to be held, a trial for which you all are in the dark. One of you has committed several felonies and refuses to admit it. Your decision is understand , but it reveals to me that you are a coward and this matter will be publicly addressed. Theft, abuse, addiction, rape, and murder have been devastatingly burdened upon our community. Mothers, fathers, children, and elders have been unjustly condemned by these things because of one single person and it will be tolerated no longer."
My heart began to pound, my eyes began to drip, I started to perspire and then direct eye contact was made between two people.
"Our beloved EDEN is behind this madness for it is he who deserves the most cruel of punishments, and that will be decided by our jury right now publicly to this pitiful group of people."
Eden's face went from a dusty sand color to a vibrant red. Even liars wouldn't be able to express such emotion for something they clearly did. Everyone knew Eden, he was mute most of the time yet he expelled so much love and energy.
Mountainous men came to seized Eden and they brutally dragged his body to the center of the square. They chained him to a podium so that they could accuse him and condemn him of every crime we all knew he didn't commit. One by one each juror gave him every horrendous punishment imaginable. No one knew much of Eden's family, of the little he spoke nothing he said was about where he came from. If he had, or even has family, I couldn't imagine how they would feel knowing of this injustice.
After the rambunctious murmurs had ceased, the overall decision was revealed. Eden was to suffer each one of the jurors' punishments until his body couldn't bear it anymore.
He would become a slave to the earth working through all the harsh environments. He would be in charge of executing those who did wrong so he could watch the guilty and the innocent die at his once kind hands. He would live in exile in a shack where the ground was covered in creatures and the walls would blow over if the slightest of breezes came through.
These punishments would commence after he had spent six months in prison, just so that other prisoners could torment him. After the punishments had been documented, some of the people started to revolt. Eden had numerous amounts of belongings because the people gave him much for his acts of kindness. He cared for children, he helped those who couldn't help themselves, he treated everyone the same. He gave to the poor and much was given back to him.
People began to throw chairs toward the officials because they were not pleased with the decision. Abruptly, a loud excursion of sound came from the sky. A man dressed in all black shot a gun in the air and then targeted everyone who revolted. No one was wounded but all were scared. The sound was enough to remind the crowd of their vulnerability, and they all sat and watched as Eden was dragged to prison.
Eden said nothing the entire trial. He did not defend himself and he did not get upset with the officials he just looked confused. He willingly walked away as if he did the crime.
