Leah, I thought you said he was gone. Jacob said. But not angrily, just confused.
He was, and we've been running patrol for the past two days, but we haven't come across anything. I hate to admit it but he's good.
But why does he want Evelyn? If he just wants to feed why did he come back for her? I thought angrily.
He saw how protective you were last time. Jacob answered thoughtfully. He probably thinks it's a game. That's what it was like for that red head Victoria's mate James.
I growled and picked up the pace, going even faster than before. Jacob and Leah sighed and struggled to keep up with me. I remember the story about Bella and that James vampire. He bit her and the Cullens were almost too late to save her. I wasn't even going to give him a chance to hurt Evelyn.
If this is a game, then he's going to lose. I said.
Jacob and Leah finally caught up to me and Jacob took his place in front. Then I felt Embry and Quil join us.
No one else is coming yet. Embry started.
And Renesmee's going to get the rest of the Cullens. Quil added.
They won't have time to get here.
Seth, the only thing you need to worry about is getting Evelyn safe. Jacob said. I didn't like it, but I didn't protest. He was right anyways. I just hoped nothing had already happened to her.
The scent got closer than it had been, and he was no doubt behind the next line of bushes. We all jumped forward through it, only to find an empty forest.
At least, at first I thought it was empty. But then the original smell I had been tracking came back to me. A scent that had barely known for 4 days, but knew like the back of my hand: Evelyn. My eyes darted frantically around until they landed on Evelyn lying motionless not too far off. I rushed over and was glad to see her free of cuts or bruises. Her chest rose and fell evenly. I stepped closer and sniffed her hair, which caused me to growl softly; she smelled like him.
My growl caused her to stir a bit, and it wasn't long before she slowly opened her eyes.
"Seth?" she asked softly.
I just nodded and leaned my head closer into her. "I'm sorry; I should've stayed where you told me to. This one's definitely my fault." I stared to shake my head in protest, but she held up a hand to stop me. "No, don't try to blame this on yourself."
Right then the Cullens came. Or at least some of them. I looked back a bit to see Edward, Bella, Carlisle, and Renesmee. Jacob was giving Edward a run through and he translated out loud for everyone else. Renesmee saw me hovering over Evelyn and rushed over.
"Evy are you okay?" she asked, checking for anything wrong like I had.
"Nope." She shook her head but then winced and touched the back of it. "Except for a little bump, but no major casualties."
"Good." she smiled and helped her up.
"Renesmee," Edward called, "why don't you take Evy back to the house? Carlisle and Bella will go with you."
