Summer POV:
High school - the best and worst times of a person's life. Beginning to see who you are, what you like, and who you will become.
Brushing the last bit of eye shadow in the crease of my eye to perfect a nude-like technique many girls have mastered, I finish my makeup and stare at the girl in the mirror. Eighteen years old, A Honor Roll student, and a perfect GPA. I should be happy. I am. I AM happy. I have an amazing boyfriend, a full ride into NYU, and my life mapped out for me. "I am happy", I say to the girl in the mirror. Somehow, I'm not as convincing as I had hoped.
Beep. Beep. Beep.
My alarm blares into the stillness of the fall morning, signaling my time is up and I must go to school. Ugh. I hate having to stay all day in classrooms with no visual to the beautiful day waiting to greet me. I adore the fall and winter time. Its the perfect time to go to Starbucks and study or to read a good book by the fireplace.
I grab my backpack and purse and walk out of my room. As I reach the end of the hall, I see her sitting on the couch, staring into space with no insightful thought in her once-extensive mind. "Mom" I call to her. She doesn't flinch, not even blink. I sigh as I walk towards the kitchen, boil her some tea, and make her some soup. Once finished, I place the tea and the bowl of soup on a tray in front of her, and urge her to eat. "Please eat, mom." I look into her soulless eyes and see nothing. Not even a speck of the mother I once knew. I kiss her temple. "I love you, mom", I mumble into her hair. She places her hand on my hair, stroking it ever so gently as if it physically hurt her to raise her arm. She drops it as soon as she placed it on my hair, and shuts me out again.
I grab my keys, and walk to the door. I lock it and proceed to my car. I start the car and begin the drive to school. My phone begins to buzz, and I glance at the clock 8:00am it reminds me. I smile as I answer the phone. "Hey, kiddo. Good morning." "Morning Sum!" My sister cheers with a pep in her voice. She calls me every day at 8am sharp. She's always precise and never late.
"Ready for school?"
"Eh, kinda. I'm just SO stressed! I have two tests today, and I don't think I studied nearly enough. And -"
"Eve, calm down, okay?" I chuckled, pulling in to my designated parking spot at James Bradley High School. "You'll do great. You study hard, and you always do outstanding." I park and take the keys out of ignition.
"Yeah, I do study pretty hard. Well, my bus is here. Bye Summer! Are you still gonna pick me up after school?" I tell her yes, as I walk with backpack and purse in hand through the double doors of Bradley High. We say our goodbyes as I walk into Government, my first class of the day.

A/N: hey guys! I know this chapter isn't the best, but beginnings are usually kind of slow. They introduce the story. I promise as the story progresses, it'll get more interesting. Well, that's the plan at least. Haha :) ~Elise🐳
